142 lbs

While that is actually one pound higher than last week, last week's weight was artificially low due to me having a horrible flu and not eating for two days!

Had that not happened I was due to weigh 143 today, so I have actually ended up a pound ahead and am quite happy with that! :D

201 - a loss!  Makes up for last week's stagnation.  The 190's are in sight.

Ladies, it looks like you are doing well.

SweetSilver, a month has passed since your initial weighin. Might it be water retention from expecting AF?

I will post the spreadsheet tomorrow. There are still a few ladies who haven't checked in yet.

This morning I weighed 145 lbs. In as much as it is still a loss, I haven't gone to a bathroom for "#2" in last 3 days (constipated :( ). I wonder if the scale will show a completely different number once I get rid of this waste in me...

204.5 AF arrived. Since I stopped sugar, most of PMS symptoms are gone. Water retention still there though. I don't have the chocolate cravings, thankfully.
Herbal thyroid medicine didn't work very well, so TCM practitioner sending me something else to try. I'm a vegetarian and would like avoid reg thyroid medicine, if I can.

Lots of gals having their periods at the same time ahah!

Congrats Gooseberry, it's so good to see such a change!

I've been pretty good the last few days, pretty proud of myself :) Feeling great too! I did have my Monday indulgence but it wasn't as bad as it usually is. I did bust my ass at work, hanging a bunch of artwork, up and down the ladder all day! Was a good day!

kzwo, I am sure your weight will drop a little once the waste is eliminated. I think it is better to go for consistency though - do you generally have a bowel movement before you weigh yourself on Monday? If so, then it will likely make a difference. If not, then it likely won't matter in the grand scheme of things.

AFM, 30 weeks 5 days with gestational diabetes (thanks twin placentas) - DH and I bought a membership to the YMCA and went swimming last night. I went again this morning right after I ate breakfast in order to make sure my blood sugar wasn't too high. From what I have read, the exercise can help blood sugars for the next 24 hours. Swimming is so much fun although sometimes it is just walking back and forth in the pool - my pregnant tummy loves the anti-gravity effect of the water and being in the pool allows me to get 30 minutes of exercise without being in tummy pain.

lilacvioletiris, my bathroom visits for a bowel movement is irregular, something like 2-3 times a week. It has always been this way... So there is no way of telling whether or not it will happen on any given Monday morning. To be consistent, when I get up on Mondays I use the bathroom to pee and step on the scale right away. Like right now, scale shows 143.5 lbs, which is 1.5 lbs lighter than yesterday morning but I will stick to Monday morning numbers and try to see the bigger picture. I began losing weight in August when I was the heaviest, 156 lbs. So overall, I am trying to convince myself that I am doing OK.

P.S. (English is my 4th language so I hope my posts make sense to native English speakers.)

Yes, the gain was not entirely baffling.  But 5# in 2 days?  Ack!  Conversely, for some reason I have been peeing like crazy (at night--of course--zzzz) and am down nearly an entire pound since yesterday's weigh-in.  It is baffling, because monthly weight gain directly connected to my period is about 2-3#, not 5, and I don't lose 2# in 2 days!

You humble me.  I didn't even notice anything n your post that would suggest otherwise--it is more articulate even than many native speakers.  Your last statement caught me by surprise!

kzwo, I think you are doing great to go from 156 in August to where you are now. It sounds like your Monday routine is consistent but maybe you want to add more water and fiber into your weekly routine to see if you can get more regular bowel movements to see if that helps your weight loss. I never would have thought that English was your 4th language. I agree with SweetSilver, you are very articulate.

SweetSilver, did you eat something especially salty in the last couple of days before weigh in. That could cause 5 pounds in 2 days. But then again, who knows. Some things come so quick and then leave just as quickly, aka having to pee all the time at night.

IsaFrench, swimming has been my exercise salvation. On land I get braxton hicks contractions that are so tight I can hardly walk. In the water, not a bit of BH contractions. I actually went swimming twice yesterday. I am not sure I will get in today because of my baby shower tonight but I am going to try this afternoon.

Sweet Silver do you take Magnesium?  Besides increasing water and fiber it can also help get things moving along.

Both dh and I have some virus that is affecting our throats.  Oddly enough, both of us are peeing more and our eyes are watering.  But it could be a combination of anything.

Well, this is getting depressing.  I have no change for the week.  I was expecting at least a fake loss--I have been sick since Friday.  It is just a cold (worst one ever!) though, not a stomach virus, but my appetite has just not been there so I really thought I might lose due to that if nothing else.  If I still have no change next week, I will be posting my full week worth of food and exercise to see if anyone might be able to shed light on my inability to shed pounds.  What really sucks is that I thought I was noticing some changes visually.  :-(

172.4.  Not as much as I'd hoped.  Didn't get to exercise much this week and I have been eating alot of fruit (dried and fresh).  I only have 5 more days on the Whole30, so I am going to try to really clean up my act and finish strong.

I guess that puts me back to where I started?  Sorry ladies, but staying put isn't so bad, and I had a really big weekend...date night, family birthday party. I'm just glad I'm not 160 again!  Back feels better, not feeling sick anymore, I can get back to my walks again.

140.5!

Very pleased with this past couple of weeks. I have also started running again - two runs so far and no sign of my hip pain returning (I still feel twinges but they are very manageable with stretching). Holding my breath until I've gone a couple of weeks, but so far, so good!

VERY FRUSTRATED! I'm hoping that this is due to female issues, but I weighed in at 204 today.  That's up 3lbs.  I've been working really hard, and this doesn't feel good.  I had two people tell me last week that I looked slimmer, but then I saw pics of myself at the pumpkin patch, and didn't think I looked very good.  Sigh.

A frustrating result for me too. I just don't seem to have the motivation and willpower to get any further. Which is a shame because I am still 11kg from my goal and not at all happy with how I look and feel at this weight.

AAK, food, exercise, and water intake can all have an effect. It may be useful to you to get an idea of where your choices are thwarting your efforts.

Have any of you that are struggling with weight loss tried myfitnesspal.com to track your food intake, exercise done, and water drank?  I think there are other apps that do similar things (sparkpeople comes to mind). I have been using myfitnesspal.com to keep track of my carb intake for my GD but it also has the exercise and water logging as well.

I will wait until tomorrow to see if the last couple of ladies check in.

Hello Ladies,

I am sorry I am very late to Monday morning weigh-in.  I tried to log in twice yesterday but I didn't have internet connection.  My weight was 144.2 lbs. yesterday morning.

SweetSilver, lilacvioletiris, Jaxy, thank you for your nice comments about my English. I am fluent in Azeri, Turkish, Russian, and working on English and Korean. I don't necessarily feel comfortable to compose an official letter in English or Korean yet but hopefully it will change in couple or few years.

Lilacvioletiris, I agree with your suggestion on adding water to my daily diet. The problem is, I don't like water at all. My brain doesn't even register that I need to drink until it is mid-afternoon and I get a terrible headache. I have set reminders on my phone to drink water every 2-3 hours, but every time the reminder pops up I snooze it and then don't do anything about drinking. I drink about 2-3 cups of black or green tea each day.

My DH is coming back tonight from his 3-wk long trip and tomorrow is the last day of week 13 (of my pregnancy), so hopefully I will get some help with my older kids and will also get my energy back to exercise. I drink lots of water only when I exercise otherwise I feel my body is on fire.

168.9 :(

Very stressful week, sick AGAIN (been drinking lemon juice and cayenne pepper, I think it's the tropical weather here in New Orleans, we're even talking about moving to Vermont in a couple of years, the cool mountain air would do us so much good!!), picked up extra shifts at work for a co-worker, haven't been exercising nor cooking... But it's getting better.

I read the following on my fitness and weight loss site (they have a discussion forum) and thought I might share it with you ladies, since some of you seem to be getting frustrated with the same up and down of a couple of pounds.

As I am getting close to my weight loss goal I have started visiting the "maintaining your weight" forum to see what strategies to employ when I'm done with losing. Basically, you can expect your weight to fluctuate between 2 - 5 pounds even if you are maintaining your exercise levels and a constant net caloric intake, based simply on daily variables such as sodium intake (extra sodium = extra water), menstrual cycle (when some women retain more water), and even from an intense workout session or a couple of really low calorie days. A poster wrote:

"Maintenance isn't static...I pretty much fluctuate between 180 - 185 Lbs day to day throughout the week depending on sodium intake, waste in my system, whether I've had a really intense workout, etc. It's normal and it's not fat. Those people that talk about gaining and losing those same 2-5 Lbs...well, they're really just maintaining."

In order to determine whether you are truly losing or just maintaining (over the short term; it becomes apparent over the long term!), I encourage people to track their running averages for weight. For example, today I had a little "spike" and the scale showed a pound more than I've been reading the past several days. Here are the last seven days of my actual weight:

141
140.5
140
140.5
140.5
140.5
141.5

You might look at this and think "I'm stuck, I'm getting nowhere, and I've ended up at a higher weight than when I started the week". But when you look at the running averages, you see a different story:

141.6
141.4
141.1
140.8
140.6
140.5
140.6

Anyways, those are my helpful tips for the day, lol. I really hope I do not come across as an obnoxious know-it-all, or that I'm pushing "my way" onto anyone else. I know there are different paths to good health and I totally won't take it personally if you ignore me. ;-)

I agree!

No motivation for losing so maintaining is good when you're not really trying to lose weight (again, what am i still doing here? lol) although you'd love too lol.
