I know it's not weigh-in day yet, but I've been a good girl and am already down those extra two pounds, so I'm hopeful I will show a loss come Monday. I've passed a big milestone in my running program and am now running considerably more each week. I also started doing long walks (about 6 km) on my non-running days and I'm so pleased that my hip pain issues are pretty much gone (I "feel" it when running still, but no pain at all). Turns out that the walking was a Good Thing. I'm not sure if it's because I was working those muscles more or because I do stretches after my walks and my runs, so when I walk I have more stretching in a week. But I'm just thrilled to report I did my first 10K run on Tuesday with NO PAIN. It felt great!

Also, given that I just dropped two pounds on the scale in the last 3 days (and apparently gained those two pounds over a 3 day period last week), I wanted to share a post from the My Fitness Pal forum that I found super interesting and really helps me not get discouraged when I'm fluctuating like this:

Quote:
"When you eat at a caloric deficit, the glycogen stores (and the water molecules they must bind to in the cells) are shed first. That's why you get a big loss the first week of any diet. You just depleted your glycogen stores [and all the water it was bound to, which has a considerable amount of weight] and now the body has no choice but to resort to fat in a continued caloric deficit.

So you keep up your deficit and your body is burning both glucose from the food you're eating and fat from your body...and you finally get to a weight you like. So you increase your calories to stop losing...

Or, you just decide to ditch the caloric deficit for a weekend of eating without discretion...

Or, Christmas rolls around or you go on vacation and you eat to satisfaction and maybe a touch more...

... and you find you almost instantly put on 5 lbs.

All that has happened is your body has restored its glycogen stores and the water that glycogen must be stored with."

So if you suddenly gain a pound (or two, or three) after a day of indulging, or for no apparent reason, keep in mind that it is almost certainly water, not fat, and you can lose that excess just as quickly. To lose a true pound of body weight (i.e not water) you need to eat 3500 calories more than you burned (over a day or week or even a month...).

That's really interesting Piglet!  I've always wondered how it works!  Thanksgiving went pretty well here :)

Thanks for that info Piglet!

Thanksgiving went really well, I don't feel like I overate at all. However, I currently have a pecan pie, an apple crisp, and a  pumpkin pie in my fridge and two quarts of vanilla ice cream in the freezer. I plan to bring the pies to work to share on Monday, but that still means I have to make it through the weekend without going on a sugar binge. C'mon, willpower!

Took a little sneak peak at the scale this morning and it's looking good.  We will see what the official WI is tomorrow :)

176.4 -- did ok on thanksgiving, but then I ate a lot of leftovers on Friday. . . then got sick on Saturday.  Sunday was fine, but I don't know how to read my weight.  It is what it is I guess.

161.4, pooh. I think I'm up at least a pound of mucous (ew!), based on how my chest feels. I'm bound and determined to get to 160 next week.

Looks like Thanksgiving wasn't too bad of a food catastrophe for those of you who have checked in so far. Hopefully the rest of the teams did as well or at least maintained.

123.5, so a very slight loss from last week. Thanksgiving was good, but I couldn't control myself with those pies in my fridge so I unloaded them at work this morning. I'm getting the late-afternoon sweets craving right now, and I'm glad they're gone! I'm off for a short run instead, after another dismal week of very little exercise.

My failure in the exercise department lately has been almost entirely due to scheduling and childcare conflicts/issues and not a matter of faulty willpower. This week should be better, as both girls are finally in childcare during the morning while I work, so my husband can sleep during that time and be awake with us during the afternoons, so I will have many opportunities to get out for a run. I have a race this Saturday morning, though, so I don't want to overdo it and wear my legs out. Unfortunately my older DD's preschool ends this week, and we'll have 2 weeks of scheduling difficulties again during which time I'm not really sure how I'll manage to get my runs in. The good news is that my in-laws are coming to stay with us for a few months, and they are arriving on the 19th. So during the time they're here we'll have plenty of free childcare, and I intend to get out to run as much as physically possible. In fact, I think I might sign up for a really challenging, hilly 10k at the end of February in order to have a goal race in sight.

167.5 for me! This means I dropped the 2 pounds I was showing last week plus .5 from my start weight. YAY! 168 has been hard for me to break so I hope this is truely the end of it.

Well I finally bought a scale. I'm 162.7, this is the heaviest I've ever been; I don't think I weighed this much pregnant. On the upside, I have been eating well and doing great with exercising at least 4 times a week, so at some point, I should see some loss!

grisandole, I changed up your weight to reflect the new scale and now you can go from here for the rest of the challenge.

was back on phase one of Harcombe for 5 days, then phase two with one type of food re-introduced every few days only (i went too fast last time and stalled my weight loss) and it looks good for me this week, i couldn't resist hoping on the scale this morning (since i have a medical appointment today where my weight is monitored) ... and i've lost a bit extra since Monday ... am so so so pleased to have found something that seem to be a good fit for me !!!!!

now, hoping not to backtrack during the week end and looking forward to stepping on the scale on Monday (& wondering what kind of clothe treat i could get myself when i reach 60 kg ....)

had to miss my dance class on Monday due to exhaustion & too many commitments

but managed swimming on Tuesday

and a little walking on Wednesday

today is dance class, hopefully i'll be able to go and swim tomorrow ....

Yay! A whole kilogram down this week. Some of that will be water loss as I was sick yesterday but, hopefully, most of it is real.

Good luck to everyone else.
