By all means, share with us each week and then when the next challenge begins, we can add you in. Motivation is something good for all of us.

Everyone is basically doing their own thing but this is what I'm doing:

I normally eat pretty well, but I had relatives over for three weeks for Christmas and there ended up being a ton of terribly unhealthy food that I ate. Relatives wanted to cook for Christmas Eve and there was 12 dishes and not one had a veggie. This past week since they left, I swung in the opposite direction and logged all my calories, but I feel like I was getting obsessive and it wasn't something I would maintain naturally. So this week I'm trying to eat healthy meals, w/lots of veggies and minimally processed foods, like how I normally eat and not over analyze every bite.

I'm a few weeks into a program that I do that combines HIIT (high intensity interval training, also called tabata) and strength training. In HIIT, you do short bursts of exercise and push yourself to the max then take a break. Depending on the exercise the intervals can be anywhere from like 20 seconds to a minute of exercise, then the same amount of time of rest, and repeat. They say doing these workouts works you out harder, in shorter time, and raises your metabolism for up to 24 hours afterwards increasing your normal calories burned for the rest of the day, compared to steady state cardio like running.I just know its working because I always feel it the next day! Anybody else tried HIIT, how's it work for you, do you like it?

I actually took today off because I think I might have overtrained, and better to take a break and heal then hurt something and be out of comission for longer term. I also might be coming down with a cold, I'm sneezing like crazy. I just feel really guilty though! Anybody else take a day off when you think you need it?

Exercise is the focus for the challenge but good eating and lots of water makes a difference too. I know some people are using the "my fitness pal" app to track their food, water and exercise. I have found that has helped me.

Jaxy, you're so sweet! It's really exciting to see my name on your list. :-) I did a few rounds of the healthy weight loss challenge almost 2 years ago and never really lost much weight. Since the last challenge, I've lost 14 pounds so far. The biggest change for me has been planning my meals & snacks ahead of time on My Fitness Pal. I hate tracking what I eat, but it really gets the job done! Yay for all of us for making healthy choices a habit! orngbiggrin.gif

Lilac and Jaxy, thank you so much for the support! I'm tracking my exercise routine and eating habits daily. So far, the exercise is the easier part, but the healthy eating is not happening at all, although i'm eating less compulsively! LOL! I'm loving this thread and people here are really warm and kind.... joy.gif

I am really struggling woth exercise. I have been out of the routine for 8 months now and am so disappointed on how weak and sloppy my body has gotten. Before the summer I was at the gym daily working out hard and I was pregnant!

I don't have a gym option right now and it is too cold to take the new baby out for walks right now. I live in AK. I tried putting on a workout video and was breathless almost immediately. I need some words of wisdom here. I don't want to quit! I want to be healthy again!

Maybe try a prenatal workout video that has a slower pace to get you back in the swing of exercise even though you aren't pregnant anymore?

Bohemianmama- Do you babywear around the house? I used to just do it when I was out, but now I'm accustomed to putting baby on my back while I'm doing chores around the house. I burn quite a bit more calories that way- and I get some exercise!

Oh dear, not a good start to this challenge for me :-( Too much chocolate, not enough exercise. It is back to being stinking hot again so very difficult to do anything.

However, there is no more chocolate in the house so, hopefully, this week will be better.

139.11

same again this week

at least i didn't put on weight in spite of stressful times again involving someone close in hospital + had to drop my two dance class last week

still managed 2 swim session, a lot of walking and a roller blading class

with that Harcombe eating plan, my binge-emotional eating is much more contained, which is quite a relief

and means i maintain instead of gaining ....

Lots of exercise but lots of sweets and junk food (I took a few days off my cleanse because I was upset, not knowing I were to lose my job/move in another town, I was stressed out and caved in majorly)

I'm down 1lb this week, weighing in at 221.

After a long season of selling and buying houses (and a summer-long couch surf at my parents') I am getting back into routines.  I've dropped the Dr Pepper and started drinking water in earnest. I've found an online yoga site that seems to be a good fit and I've got a pool/gym membership.  I haven't gotten back to the gym, but I've been swimming with my girls a few times.

It definitely feels good to be back in the saddle, but will feel better when I start to see results!

Down 2 lbs exactly at 174.8. Strangely, I increased my calories this week after reading a lot about TDEE and BMR as it relates to fat loss & increasing muscle. I may increase my calories again, as I'm still breastfeeding exclusively. I'm definitely feeling satisfied and happy though, as opposed to when I was eating the minimum on MFP.

Bohemianmama-   Don't worry! You're doing great! I'm doing videos too, and I can't always make it through everything in mine. I go drink some water and take a breather and then jump back in once I catch my breath. I know that if I keep trying I'll build my stamina and strength and will be able to do more bit by bit. Keep trying and by the end of this I'm sure you'll see improvement!

Coffeebean- That's really neat that you actually lost more when you increased your calories. Are you feeling more energized now that you upped your calories?

My weight this morning is 152.6

161. Whoops. I blame AF, though she may not be the only one responsible...

What are all those acronyms, coffeebean? I've actually set a much higher calorie goal this time, too, and it feels encouraging how easy it is to achieve. Didn't realize there was some science behind setting a higher intake.
