Glad to hear there are some other amateur runners in the group. I ran four 5ks in May and an obstacle course race last month, but haven't run since. When I'm not in a race, I have the stroller with me, and I don't like running with one arm still. I should get over it though.


I've been doing a DVD workout program for the last 3 weeks and just started weightlifting again this week. I'm hoping to keep losing until a camping trip in August so I can justify buying a smaller bathing suit.

have been very careful (eating according to the Harcombe principles) onTuesday and Wedn & this is starting to show => have already lost a bit of the water weight ...

I actually began running because of these challenges about two years ago. It really helps me look at my body in an entirely different way. My body may not look exactly the way I wish but it is capable of moving six miles and doing a single mile in under 9 minutes. Although I don't have a jogging stroller. Instead I have a membership to a gym with child care and I go out on long runs early weekend mornings with hubby in charge of our little ones. (Plus my kids are about 85 lbs together and I can't imagine pushing that kind of weight!)

A big disclaimer to this week's weigh in: I'm using a different scale since I am visiting family. I weighed in as 173.5. I don't know how much of that is loss and how much is just using a different scale. It was nice to not see a higher number though. And I am going to do my best to not be discouraged if the number is higher next week and/or the week after.

I have been making pretty good decisions about food. I ran Monday, Wednesday, Friday for a total of 9.5 miles. I am happy with that.

152# this morning! Thank goodness- I'm hoping this momentum continues. I've upped my activity significantly over the past week. The next 3 days will be a challenge I'm afraid as DH works 3-12 hour shifts & I have a little bit of a summer cold (which impacts my ability to get up & work out before he leaves!). DH & I also started a 30 day green smoothie challenge & it's been great. Basic recipe is 4 cups fresh spinach, 2 cups liquid, 1 avocado, and 3 cups frozen fruit. So refreshing since it's been so hot!

117 again. I had gone down to 16.4 and then had 3 frosted cookies for dinner last night after a month of near perfect eating. I ended up laying in bed taking deep breaths to try not to throw up. Now I know! I'm confident I can re-lose it quickly though.






Allisonrose, that's awesome you can do a 9 minute mile! I'm still not there. I'm at about 13 minutes.

congratulations to all those who lost weight this past week
my loss will hardly register (100 grams !)
so that's 131.17 (instead of 131.21 last week ....)
too much stress, too little sleep and emotionnal eating at night ....
hoping to do better next week,
if all goes well i should be able to go away for 6 days, i will have internet access but it won't be my own scale
so i might only report my weight on the Monday after my return home ..

The 9 minute mile is me pushing myself as hard as possible for that mile with the expectation that I will not be able to maintain that pace past a mile. My usual pace for outdoor runs tends to fall around 11:30 min/mile.

But no matter the pace, the important thing is getting out there.

115.6 this morning. I had some delicious fried bananas and homemade vanilla ice cream tonight, so who knows what tomorrow's number will be. I'm starting my second five-week set of DVD exercises tomorrow after losing 8 pounds in the first five-week set, so I'm excited about that.

Ugh, back up to 144.5. Very disappointing since I was so close to seeing those 130 numbers again. Also, I spent almost 2 &1/2 hours running 15 miles this week and did 4 hours of yoga classes. Despite three Epsom salt baths and liberal applications of Arnica gel, my entire lower back body is sore and tender, from my sacrum to the soles of my feet. I had one cookie yesterday at "The Science of Chocoloate" event I took DS to at the library, but otherwise have totally been off sugar for the last ten days. Last week I did a 3-day juice cleanse again (same as last month, 5 juices a day, salad or vegan soup for dinner), and since then I've continued to do a juice per day. Yup, working hard and feeling pretty bummed about the results today. At least I'm still down from where I started the last challenge.

Hey runners, anyone know if it's a problem to move my long run to the middle of the week between two easy runs? I really don't want to give up my rest days (Monday & Friday) but on Saturday and Sunday I have yoga (1hr on Sat, two 90 min classes on Sunday) so the best I can manage is 3 miles before or after Sat class. Tues & Thurs DS goes to camp, and DH is almost always off work on Wednesdays, so Wednesdays are the ideal day to try and do my long run which is up to 8-9 miles now so takes a significant amount of time. I can't find any training plans that resemble this schedule in the least. Any insight on possible downsides to this plan?

I'm at 147# today. Down 5# from last week, which is completely unreasonable. I am afraid that some of my postpartum depression/anxiety is cropping up, which always manifests itself with poor appetite a and unawareness to what I need (as I try to keep busy to avoid feeling yucky). I'm eating, but certainly not enough to support breastfeeding, activity & taking care of my family :/
To answer your question @MsBe
I don't see an issue with moving your long run to the middle of the week... As long as you incorporate enough rest. I generally try to space at least 3 days between my long run & any other speed work- like a tempo run or a track workout. This just minimizes the risk of injury (learned that one the hard way!)
