8 week Healthy Weight Loss Challenge 16 starts June 23, 2014, join anytime

I think it is time to change it up because some people find us in the middle of a challenge and don't feel they can jump in, but may lose their momentum by the time the next challenge starts. So continuing with this challenge, I will add those newcomers to our teams, keep track of their weight loss percentages and add it to the teams total for however long they are a part of the team to keep everyone motivated! The longer you participate, the better for your team.

Words of wisdom from Milk8shake (with minor modifications):
The version 1 thru version 15 eight week challenges were a great success, and many of us are up for another eight weeks - we're opening it up for any newbies who would like to join the next round of the challenge.

Please read below.

Background: The thought came to my head because I joined the "losing weight in 2012" thread, but I didn't have much motivation, and I had no-one to be accountable to. I was thinking about the Biggest Loser, and how teams can be such a motivation. So, I thought I would throw this out there for anyone who needs to get some weight loss happening, but just can't seem to get off the couch.

The challenge: Commit to an eight week weight loss challenge. You'll be assigned to a team, and your weight loss percentage will be measured on an individual and a team basis. The team with the highest loss percentage at the end of the eight weeks will be the winner. This is a TEAM effort. If you lose, your team wins! Your weekly progress will be updated on the leader board for all to see.

The requirements/rules:
  1. You have to be willing to commit to the challenge beginning June 23, 2014 and ending August 11, 2014
  2. You have to be willing to commit to exercising a minimum of 4 x 30 minute sessions per week - the type of exercise is up to you!
  3. You have to be willing to check in and update your progress and weight at least weekly on Mondays.
  4. You have to be willing to share your weight and your height. (By PM if you are shy) You may not join if losing 1 lb / .5 kg per week will put you in an underweight category according to your BMI (check here) at the end of eight weeks.
  5. You may not join if you are pregnant. If you become pregnant during the challenge, weight loss up to your BFP will be added to the team challenge, but then I will ask that you wait until after your baby is born to join again.

The prize: A thinner waistline, a slimmer derriere, and the opportunity to bask in the glory of the winning team. The challenge will not start until Monday, June 23, 2014. Sign up now to let us know you are interested so I can begin making teams.

I will be in for another 8 weeks. I might not weigh in for part of July since I will be out of town. My hope for that time frame is simply to maintain.

Thanks for starting the new challenge @lilacvioletiris . I'm in again! Between this group and the half-marathon training I am being much more dedicated about exercising and much more conscious about what I'm eating. Even though my weight isn't dropping as quickly or consistently as I'd like i think I'm starting to see some differences in my body shape. Got in about 100 minutes of running this week while on vacation. And spent some lovely time splashing in the (frigid) surf up in Maine. This morning I ran some great trails, it was a real treat, I wish there were some spots like that to run around here. My goal is 50 more minutes of running this week.

I'm back. I've started losing again this week after a bad few weeks. Only 8kg to go. I could probably do it in two more challenges if I really knuckle down [sigh].

I'd love to join. I joined one at the end of last year. Although I found it motivating and informative, I have lots of pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving and didn't lose over the challenge.

In the six months since, I've lost 16 pounds through paleo eating and regular exercise. I'm planning on keeping it up and getting fitter.

Hello ladies! Checking in with my starting weight: 144, up a lb since ending the last challenge, but I'm pretty sure that has a lot to do with some serious back-sliding this past week with a box of chocolates I brought to bed with me.

My starting weight is going to be 177. A good weight for me for a Monday. I suspect it's because I did my long run day yesterday rather than Saturday (5.3 miles).

Oh and I'm 5'8 but still a long way from "underweight".

188.5. I always seem to start these challenges on my period.
Still need more exercise. 2 hours of hockey once a week and daily housework isn't enough.

Amanda, we do always start every 8 weeks. Maybe we should change it up to a 9 week challenge but then again, someone will likely be on their period then, sigh.

Okay, for me 225.2. Yeah, twins, taking classes, starting a part time out of home job today, eating too many strawberries with ice cream. I need to get a grip on my new reality and how exercise and food play a roll. Hello vegetables and fruit. You would think being a vegetarian would make that simpler but bread and carbs are my nemesis.

Seems we have less turn out for this challenge. If there are groups of ladies you see on threads that you think would benefit from the camaraderie we have here, invite them to join.

I'd like to join!!with my last babe, at 4 weeks pp I was ~ 7 # from my pre preg wt; and by the time she was 9 months old I was less than my pre- preg wt! with this LO I gained 5# more (35#) and it's been creeping off! At 4 wks PP Im only down 15# with 20 more to go. I'm 5'4", 153#. Still having some bright red bleeding, so I'm taking my activity slow, but I can certainly do the suggested amount of exercise by walking. Thanks for starting the thread . Looking forward to accountability!

I'm starting at 119. I'm not sure what my goal weight is because I'd like to add some more muscle and I don't know what that will make me end up. I've got fat to lose for sure though. I'm 5-2 or 5-3.

I'd like to join. I had my first baby 4 1/2 weeks ago. I was about 10lbs more than I wanted to be when I got pregnant, and then I gained 48lbs during my pregnancy. The weight came off fast in the beginning--but I think it was mostly water weight etc...I've kinda plateaued now, 22lbs more than I was pre-pregnancy.

I was 166.2 yesterday, and hope to be down to 155 after these 8 weeks. Eventually I'd like to be 138-140.

Ah! Dangit! You got rid of the excuses! I remember joining one of these, falling off the wagon and thinking, "Meh, I'll join the next one. Ooooooooops! Did I miss the deadline to join. Shucks. I'll have to put this off longer, I guess . . . "

Now I really, really, really need this. I didn't realize how bad things have gotten. I'll be writing down every morsel that enters my mouth and will PM my stats!

I'm leaving town for a week and won't be able to check in on Monday but will shoot for the following Monday.

Can I join too? I was always at a healthy weight until I had two babies, though I did get back to prepregnant weight between the two by the time DS1 was about 27 months. Now I'm up 35 pounds from my pre-pregnant weight and about 45 from my goal, even though I'm not entirely sure what that should be. But the point is I've got pounds to lose!

I struggled with some blood sugar issues, not quite enough for a formal gestational diabetes diagnosis, during both pregnancies, so I'm really trying to get healthy above all else. So I'm really focusing nutrient dense foods and being more active, lots of resistance workouts and HIIT to try to improve insulin sensitivity. But I'm willing to eat more nutrient dense foods than I "should" according to my weight loss calorie estimates so that I'll be nourished, so my weight loss might be slower maybe making me a less than ideal teammate. But, I really love the idea of having a support group. I'm pretty sure that DH is sick of hearing me fret about my weight and body! It be good to have a positive group of motivated mamas to talk about it with instead.

maybe thats a bit more info than everyone needed, but i'm excited to commit to the activities and weekly check-ins. For this Monday my weight was 185.6. My goal is 145 or lower, I'm not sure how I'll look and feel at that weight so I want to see.

63.4kg (139.77lb)

A tiny loss. I've had a small epiphany regarding my chocolate consumption recently. It's pretty out of control. I don't think giving up completely is healthy or realistic for me so my plan is to only eat sweets at events, not at home. Hopefully that will limit my intake fairly dramatically (we don't have a very active social life ) without making me feel too deprived or excluded from the social aspects of food, which are important to me.

I'm also feeling like I'd like to get back into running. I haven't quite worked out how to manage this logistically but I'm thinking about it. And I'm currently sitting in a physio's waiting room to get some advice about my back pain so looking forward to some changes there too.

Monday morning weigh in: 175.5
Very happy about it. Towards the end of last week my weight was actually under 175. I am going to be going to visit family and don't plan to be as strict about calories there as I have been lately. I am okay with my weight loss stagnating over my three week visit. Even okay with regaining a small amount (hopefully not more than two pounds).

I dialed up my running last week in anticipation of the vacation. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday were 3 mile runs. On Saturday I went out for a 6 mile run. I plan on a 4 mile run today. I know my running will be less in frequency and length while visiting so I'm hoping these extra miles will result in less overall loss of fitness.

Hello Mamas! Weighed in at 142 today. I had a super active week. Put in 180+ mins of running for my half-marathon training (and the beginnings of my runs are moving from total misery to mildly uncomfortable, which feels like a huge improvement), went swimming (not laps or anything, just splashing around in the lake) three times, and got in a couple of more vigorous yoga practices. But AF is on her way, and I had 4 or 5 chocolates last night from my secret stash, so I'm happy to still be seeing a drop. And I saw my sister a couple days ago and she noted that I was looking slimmer. I'm really hoping to get into those 130's this challenge; my thighs are still touching and I'd love to see that old gap come back.

155# bah! Up 2#. Not sure what's going on, although I will say that DD and I made cookies 3 days ago, and well, they've been far more of a staple in my diet than they should....perhaps that's it. I also woke up with a huge right boob (DS evidently preferred the left last night) so maybe that's it too! I also know I'm not drinking enough water and DH made some delicious lemonade that I've had a few sips of. I usually don't drink anything with sugar at all. So that is gonna be my focus over the next week, more water. Bleeding has stopped hallelujah! Just in time for my 6 week check up on Wednesday. So, I'm also going to add more activity as well. I did a 40 min walk last night and 20 min walk this am before it gets too hot here (supposed to be over 100!). I should her out again tonight when it cools down. Fingers crossed for a healthier week! Looking forward to getting in the pool & I can hardly wait to lace up my running shoes (but I need new ones due to my 20# wt gain!)

Lilac- one positive is that I know when my period is about to start. :-)
I'm a veggie too, and it's tough to stay away from the carbs. I love chips after hockey. I think it's the salt.

187. Making some changes. No more chips after hockey. I'll bring some healthy snacks for the drive home. Also, less cheese. Not great for my skin anyway.
