Thumbs up September 2014 1,000 Minute Exercise Challenge!

Welcome to September! Whether you're exercising to maintain or lose weight, to avoid watching too much TV, to spend more time with your children/family and friends, or for other health reasons like to ease back pain, I hope you join me in exercising.

For those who need ideas:
Walking
Bicycling
Riding an exercise bike
Jogging or running
Swimming
Lifting weights

Be careful, enjoy yourself, and have a great time

May God bless you and His Blessed Mother Mary keep you!  :-)

I gained 45 lbs a couple of years ago (as a result of medications and illness), and I have been struggling for over a year to lose the weight. I am definitely in a lot better shape, but the scale refuses to budge. My DH and I are trying to conceive, and I would love to be a healthier place for pregnancy (and parenthood). I can definitely make an attempt at 1,000 minutes of exercise. I have had a slow few weeks, and I am trying to make a commitment to myself to get back to the gym for strength training classes (2 to 3 times every week). My commute is via bicycle, but a lot shorter these days. I suppose it is worth tracking.

I just returned from 45 minutes of bicycling in the neighborhood.

45/1000

Thanks for joining me, treehugger86! Your bike commute to and from the gym is definitely worth tracking. Today as I was walking around my yard I remembered that when I joined the YMCA in the town where I grew up one year as a teen, I walked all the way there, walked around their air conditioned track, and walked home, and if I had been tracking for a challenge like this I would have included all of that walking.

2 miles walked at 30 minutes each = 60 minutes
60/2,000

May God bless you and His Blessed Mother Mary keep you!  :-)

9/2 walked 1 mile and took out the trash, 35 minutes + 10 minutes put mail in the mailbox (walked) + 15 minutes watered plants and checked the mail + 40 minutes 1 mile walked with my little ones and carried sticks to the stick pile (lifted weights) = 100
60 + 100 = 160
160/2,000

May God bless you and His Blessed Mother Mary keep you!  :-)

All my commutes are via bicycle! Well, I try, at least. Today, I rode to work 15 minutes in each direction. I also rode to and from campus. It was only ten minutes in each direction. Not much, but I suppose it is 50 minutes all together. That makes 50 + 45 = 95/1,000.

Good Morning!

I completely dropped the ball last month. I did work out...I just could not get on here to log it.

I'm in for 1200 this month and 1500 next month. I had too lazy of a summer.

Thanks for starting our group again Catholic Mama!

9/1 - 30 minute run
9/2 - 60 minute trail run
9/3 - 45 minutes walking (gotta stop doing this!)
9/4 - 50 minute run, squats and pushups

You're welcome, lab! Welcome back.

9/3 10 minutes of walking
9/4 1 mile 30 minutes walked at sunrise + 15 minutes of walking with my little ones until it thundered
9/5 1 35 minute mile with my little ones + 45 minutes of walking while shopping and unloading
10 + 30 + 15 + 35 + 45 = 135
160 + 135 = 295/2,000

May God bless you and His Blessed Mother Mary keep you!  :-)

Great to see all these activities. Motivation to keep moving!

I should be at the gym, but I am sore all over from yesterday. I will have to find a way to get some other movement in during the day to take advantage of the weekend.

9/4: 30 minute bicycle commute (15 min x 2), and 20 minute bicycle commute (10 min x 2) = 50 minutes
9/5: 60 minutes strength training class and 40 minute bicycle commute = 100 minutes

100 + 195 = 295/1,000

This is the third time I have tried to post this. Maybe it will work this time!

It has not been a good week at all for exercise. I've had terrible headaches, and very low energy. We didn't go to our strength training class at all:

9/14: 30 minutes bicycle ride
9/15: 20 minutes bicycle ride
9/16: 20 minutes bicycle ride and 30 minutes walk
9/17: 10 minutes walk
9/18: 20 minutes bicycle ride

= 100 + 570
= 670/1,000

It is SO great that you have a running group!

Yes, congratulations on the running group!

I'm glad you're sticking with it, treehugger86!

9/10 50 minutes of picking up sticks
9/11 30 minutes of picking up sticks + 30 minute walk + 25 minute mile walked = 85
9/12 2 55 minute 2 miles in morning, 110 minutes + 15 minutes riding my exercise bike + 1 25 minute mile = 150
9/13 10 minutes vacuuming + cleaned for 110 minutes + 1 mile and checked mail for 30 minutes = 150
9/14 1 25 minute mile walked
9/15 30 minute mile + 25 minute mile = 55
9/16 1 25 minute mile walked
9/17 1 35 minute mile walked + 45 minute walk + 1 25 minute mile = 205
9/18 1 25 minute mile walked
9/19 too busy and rainy to walk
9/20 3 miles walked, 80 minutes
9/21 4 1/2 miles walked and watered plants = 130
50 + 85 + 150 + 150 + 25 + 55 + 25 + 205 + 25 + 80 + 130 = 980
485 + 980 = 1,465/2,000

The next three days might be rainy, but if I can get my exercise bike to work (spray it enough and be gentle so that it won't squeak), I can still make my goal this month!

May God bless you and His Blessed Mother Mary keep you!  :-)

You are both very inspirational. I love your dedication and commitment. I've had a bad few weeks, and I don't know that I will meet the goal of 1,000 minutes, but I will definitely make another attempt for October. There have been a lot of days that I have barely been able to get moving, but I'm slowly getting back into a routine.

9/20: 60 minutes walk and 10 minutes bicycle ride
9/22: 20 minutes bicycle ride
9/23: 60 minutes strength training class and 20 minutes bicycle ride
9/24: 30 minutes bicycle ride
9/25: 20 minutes bicycle ride
9/26: 60 minutes strength training class, and 20 minutes walk

= 300 + 670
= 970/1,000

Wow. I suppose I will make it. I guess that means I will have to increase the goal for October!

Thanks, ladies!

Are you in pain, treehugger86, or just very busy? If you're in pain, don't push yourself too hard and make it worse.

Good job, just half an hour left and you'll be there!

Good job, just half an hour left and you'll be there!
I do have difficulties with exercise-related pain (patellofemoral pain syndrome from bicycling, and tendonitis from knitting), and chronic migraine. I am also busy, but I try to think of exercise as an important part of self-care.

9/30: 60 minutes of strength training, 20 minutes of bicycling, and I will have another 20 minutes of cycling on my commute to school.

970 + 100 = 1,070 minutes for September

I will be joining you for October, too. I will be doing IVF, but I'm hoping to remain active. Thanks for all the support and encouragement!

9/29 40 minutes of picking up sticks
9/30 30 minutes of walking (shopping, pushing a cart, putting away) + 45 minutes of picking up sticks before our lawn is mowed = 75
40 + 75 = 115
2,005 + 115 = 2,120
