No rules here, no challenges. Weigh in when you want, as often as you want, and find some great support in both loss, gains, and everywhere in between. Set your own goals, record how you're doing here, and find what works for you.

Here's a question for you: is there a time of year that is easier to lose weight, or maintain it, and other times that seems easier to gain?

I think that it is easier in the summer. I eat much more fruit and vegs. I get out more. Move more.
BUT now moving into the 40's it is all harder. :mischief

OH! I weight 136 this morning. I should be in the 120's. Eating all weekend got me. AND making cookies for the cookies exchange.

Yes! You may!

As for getting older, I find the changes seem to come all of a sudden, rather than smoothly drifting. Then as soon as I think I've got my new metabolism figured out-- BAM! Suddenly I just... don't. :irked

Hello there ... thanks for posting a link in the previous thread .... i had not put 2 and 2 together ...

SO ..i'll turn bilingual again for this 2 months challenge (= will record in kg as well, that's what my set of scales is set up for), and am starting this month at

Dec. 1st = 137.78 lb (62.5 kg) ... that is about where i was ... early July .....
now .... my aim is to get back to where i was ... the previous July !!!! (around 127 or 128)

i need to keep an eye on the figures for last month, so am copying them below
Nov 3d = 145 lb
Nov 10th = 144.18 lb
Nov 17th = 142.41 lb
Nov 24th = 141.09 lb
as you can see i have found a powerful motivator lately ... not something positive that i wish on anywone .... for the last 3 and half weeks i've had a flare up of a former health issue which is presently turning my whole world upside down, except that this time i am viewing food in a very different way since what i eat or don't eat may well have a tangible impact on the various hospital procedures that are coming my way in the very near future ... what i also wish for is to get as low as i can before i get operated on since i believe that my recovery time will possibly be shorter if i get as close as i can to my most healthy weight ...
Now on to a week of healthy eating ... in moderation (portion control !)

:( Isa

This morning I begin at 132.5

Approaching day 5 of the no caffeine/no sugar ban, and I'm feeling a wee bit better than yesterday, which was harsh but I survived it (the raisins helped-- they were super-sugary). Trying to make it until next Sunday. I do *not* plan on a life without sugar and caffeine, but sometimes I have to reset. I think this is the longest I've ever been without sugar, even counting my homeless hippie years.

Goal for this round (my goals are shrinking, darn it) is 130. For anyone hopping on here, I have a small frame, and this weight sits heavily on it. Also, my fickle scale-- which has weighed our family for 60 years-- is about 3.5 to 4 pounds off, so my actual weight is higher, but since I never weigh myself on better scales at the same time of day I don't quite know how to compare it. No, I don't plan on a new one!

good for you resisting sugar and coffee for so many days !!!
i thought i was going to falter this afternoon but in the end i made it home to a healthy option !
now i'm off to escort dd2 to swim class, am taking my present crochet project to while away 45 min since the conversation between waiting moms is not always exactly riveting....

intermediate reading (to motivate me even more ..)
Dec 5th = 136.46 lb (61.9 kg)
psychologically, it's been good to me to get below 62 this morning
have been trying some water kefir this morning (someone gave me some grains during the week, i bottled my first batch this morning ...) i was concerned about the sugar contente but it's said to be rather beneficial to the gut ... so i'm trialing it for a while ... have just had two small glasses so far & have put half of it in a jar with 6 frozen raspberries for a second fermentation for 24 hours ... we'll see how things go !!! (am not quite sure what the end product is SUPPOSED to taste LOL ...)
off to rollerblading class now ...

I wasn't so fond of the taste of homemade kefir. I'm not sure I did it right, but my chickens went *bananas* for it, and I regretted giving all of it to them, thinking I should have held some back to make more. Oh well.

This morning 134. I'm not quite sure why the scale is being so stubborn, except that I'm not getting in any walks. Finished my no sugar/no caffeine week. Hopefully this has reset my cravings for more and more (and more) but it sure didn't make a difference on the scale. Nope, I think the walks are key. Hard to find the time in winter. By the time of day I am free to go, it's nearly dark. Maybe my goal should be to merely stay steady and keep my averages closer to 132 than try for lower than that. --?

#9 ·
would it work for you to clean whatever energetically in your home for 30 min per day instead of going for walks for wintertime ?
just a suggestion ... (am not so good at applying the concept myself ...)
am not sure of the value of physical activity in fact .. in my recent experience, it's more to do with portion size and type of food ingested ...

:laugh Yeah... not happening here. I have my yoga 5 days a week. I call it good ;)

Yeah, I can get an appetite going, for sure, especially midday. But I seem to have gotten a handle on that and nothing seems to be moving.

Hmpf.

Either I don't have as good an idea as I thought I did, or I've reached another metabolic yer-getting-older plateau.

Second hmph.

I'll try not eating anything too late, and check my portions.

131.5 this morning.

I arrived there because I've been quite strict about evening eating recently, essentially only having a snack-size dinner. It's well made up for by midday eating. Adding a few long walks ups my appetite, but it's never equivalent, is it? It's like the body is screaming "ACTIVITY INCREASE! WE'RE GONNA STARVE! TIME TO GORGE!" :p

This morning I had a few of the Trader Joe's chocolate stars, and only afterwards (oops) checked the calorie count, and my little indulgence added up to over 500 calories! Gah! Guess it's fruits and veggies for the rest of the day.

A predictable weight this morning. No loss or gain, but my average weight is down-- keeping things on the low side of normal recently.

And... finally got the new bra size. I've been swimming in my old one (though only I noticed; it wasn't that much) and I finally timed a bra sale just right and bought four in the right size. FOUR. That shows some commitment.

I've been keeping close (some could say obsessive) track of my weight for over a year now, and am pleased to say I am down about 8 pounds since last Christmas. Not the big, impressive loss of the months before, but respectable.

Hello again .... was 2 weeks without internet so here i am again ....
Dec. 1st = 137.78 lb (62.5 kg)
Dec 11th = 135.14 lb (61.3 kg)
have come out of hospital, the operation went reasonnably well,
last week end i had some festive meals already
so i put back on a pound or so & i'll weigh myself again this coming week-end !
have baught myself some bras in my intended size already .... as an incentive .....

how is everyone doing foodwise ?
am doing ok, ate loads of yummy fatty meat last night with a few veggies and some British style Christmas pudding.
Am having smaller portions of everything i want today & planning to step on the scales tomorrow morning ....
a Happy Christmas to all !

#16 ·
am thinking of doing something ... a little different tomorrow ... maybe ... if i'm in the right frame of mind .;
- veggie juice for breakfast
- home made broth (the carcass from last night fowl ...) for lunch
- a green smoothie for dinner
I tend to be distracted with cooking for others (i do better when the children are NOT on school holiday but having lunch at school 4 days a week !!!)

I happened to make myself weigh this morning even though yesterday I ate about 10 pounds of chocolate and caramel. You have to let go some time right? But I weighed anyhow, and it wasn't so bad. However, my supposed no-sugar week that supposedly began supposedly today made it until about 2pm when I had some chocolate and wee bitty candy canes. Aaah.... sugar rush....

I'll maybe ease myself back instead of going cold turkey.

Good luck, Isa! It is the hardest time f the year, excepting vacations. I hope you are on the road to feeling better. Cut yourself some slack!

This morning 132.5

It's been rock steady within 1.5 pounds for 3 weeks now. I'm thrilled with the maintenance, and I haven't fluctuated more than 4 pounds all year (yeehah!) but part of me knows I could use at least 10 more pounds off this frame, and wonder when it will start to budge. I'm getting a lot of compliments, though, but the embarrassing "Incredible Shrinking Woman" comments have thankfully ended. I understand the kind intention, but last year the biggest chunk of weight came off when I was at an emotional nadir and partly because of that, so I was a bit sensitive.

Well, my December average was the lowest since July. I'm happy about that. Can I match June's average this January? Can I beat it?

I've been heartened by these last three weeks, on the whole. The light is returning, husband isn't working such long days so I have a window in the afternoon, and I haven't minded wandering in at nearly-dark. True to my recent document-everything phase, I've hauled my phone with me on walks recently. I walked about 6 miles yesterday-- unusually long since one walk was about 1.5 with my oldest daughter before I headed out on my "lonely walk". I see that a typical walk is just shy of 4 miles. I used to guess 3.5, and I was almost right. Pretty close for "human GPS". :p

My upper legs are feeling it, from hips and thighs to tush. I kind of pushed myself yesterday. I did my long yoga routine, and the sunny day compelled me to do the long walk as well. I'll take it easy today and prioritize cleaning and cooking for my open house tomorrow.

January has not gone well, and this morning-- ack!-- 135.5

First suspect: beer. I've been used to drinking a bottle every day since we had leftovers from our open house New Year's Day. Next up: cheese. I've been eating too much of it. Last: dinner. Can't exactly get rid of that, but the bitch is it makes me gain weight. I'll have to let up on the lunches and any pre-dinner snacks. It's not usually the dinner portions, which by themselves are very reasonable.

I've been exercising well, getting an extra walk in this week. I just need to tweak the portions, and ditch the alcohol.

have not dared step back on a scale considering how i was starting to feel about eating lately ....i felt .... "all over the place" ....
hoping to make a fresh start tomorrow Monday and to step back on the scale in the course of the coming week ...
cheese has been a issue with me lately too ... totally commiserating !

Shall we commiserate over some apples and cheddar? (No crackers! It's healthy! :p )

I made it "back" to 134 today. Why do these weight crises hit just before my work day when I work up an appetite? I barely made it through yesterday eating more reasonably. It's not just the belly that helps my energy, but the eating itself. Better fix that.

Tonight, thought, I'm having beer and a meal at knitting night at a "local" brewhouse.
