Today at 5pm local time we have all been asked to light a candle and say a prayer for her. It's just too sad, she has two little ones, one only three months old. Her name is Jessica.
I followed the links, how sad. It brings up so many questions with how this could happen to two young women in one family.

so, no chicken pox yet. why won't my son get the pox? he's been exposed. exposed again. exposed yet again and again. and still no pox! grrrr.

Wow, what a sad story. I never venture out of Dingoland really anymore, so am clueless to other happenings. Towson, I don't dissociate well, either. Take for example my body-wracking sobs watching the recent Frontline about the undertaker.

I had a quick run today. The snow is a bit crazy in some spots, and today it is wet, heavy and difficult to move through. Especially on sidewalks where no one has shoveled -- ever -- and it's all built up and nasty. But I did it, so there!

Contemplating heading out to do some shopping, then back home to try and get some Xmas cards done. No picture cards here, sorry! Maybe next year. Cause those are darn cute.

I'm on facebook now if any of you are, too (I gotcha, Mamabeth!). Search by my yahoo e-mail, username is megsbk

Anywhoo... off to shower now and then decide what to do.

Wow Plady-I just read that link. That is so sad-so much sadness for that family.

We just heard this morning that our friends just found out that their 10 yr old boy has a tumor in his chest. They are doing the biopsy today and will get the results on Wednesday. The doctors seem hopeful that he will be okay-whatever it is it seems to be isolated.

RM-so happy for you and your little one!!!

Monikita and CherylAnn-glad you had a great meetup! So was their knitting going on or do I even have to ask??

I finally bought the elastic for K's skirt-I am hoping to finish it tonight. They will be my first jump back-even though its just "finishing"-not knitting yet. If it goes well-I will figure out my next project.

Frigid cold runs out there have been keeping them short-around 3-but getting out there a few times a week.

Kate~mom-was it you once upon a time that was talking about a cool book on marathons?? Someone here had a rec. but I can't remember who and now I can't find the title. I think it was inspiring stories, etc...does that ring a bell for anyone??

Wild whirlwind weekend here:
Not really much fresh snow but I did manage a ski yesterday. then I woke up this morning (1 inch) and shoveled out from last week's accumulation -- shoveled the deck, the trash can out (so the trashtruck can get at it tomorrow), etc.

Then I promptly suited up both kids and kicked them outside. dd2 came in with me after about an hour. DD1 had a "penguin snack" of hot cocoa and "fish" (crackers) on the deck with her friend from next door who was out playing as well.

Now I just finished my last class with my intro to geology students. WOOT!

And on to finish up my other jobs so I can get back to writing my darn dissertation and be dr. kerc.

plady, what!? i'm so sorry about your friends!!! and that's just awful about MM, too. i will remember her at 5 pm today.

we got 20 inches of snow yesterday. i stepped out this morning in it and my foot sank all the way up to my knee. : dh is skiing right now and i'm waiting for a turn when he gets back.

...and... : i got my snowpants in today.

poppy, s thank you s

tomorrow is ds2's bday. the boys are so bored so i've let them open a present that's intended for them to cooperate and play together. it's bliss right now. what peace "animal hospital" has brought. sigh.

your christmas cards are trickling in. i just love them all. they decorate the walls and bring lots of warmth into my very cold dining room. my boys love to look at each person and ask about them. you're generating a lot of talk. mine aren't in the mail yet. i've got ds2's bday tomorrow and the in-laws and cousins arrive the next day - but then. hopefully. they. will. be. in. the. mail. :

oh and it's not relevant but my new used car had the emergency brake stuck today and i couldn't get it disengaged. so. i had to have it towed to a mechanic who is too busy working on plow trucks to deal with my little bitty ol' wagon. :

does anyone here think exactly what they were doing the night before their child's bday. i always do. this day, 4 years ago, i was in sma with plady and going to a posada when i went into labor. i was up all night and haven't really slept much sense. oh the joy.

MB - Thank you for mentioning teacher gifts!!!!! I always forget. ALWAYS. But not this year! Thanks to you I remembered that sometime a while back the words "bath salts" wandered through my mind. I just inherited a whole bunch of essential oils from a friend who moved and so dd and I just made up a fast batch of bath salts. I hope we didn't ef it up. I just mixed epsom salts, sea salt, baking soda and e.o. together. Dd picked gardenia, orange, lemongrass and peppermint for the smell. It is a little gardenia heavy but it actually smells okay.

megs - I'll look you up on Facebook. I just joined for a group an old friend started so I don't have a cool page at all. But I'd love to be your friend!

Pumpkinseed - Wow! You must be feeling better now then? I'm so glad you're getting out there.

not yet, but thank you for keeping up the prompting as it's helping me try to fit it in. I was going to do it this afternoon, but then my dad called and needed me which took up the whole afternoon. Now I have homework and kids that want to play outside and I need to get dinner started and we have wrestling practice tonight. ugh.

Thanks for all the response for ds1, what a relief! I really appreciate you ladies being there for my running other life events!!

can i see a show of hands for those runners here who see a chiropractor regularly [or as needed]?

in addition to my right hip pain, i also have a middle right back pain and am a bit addicted to my heating pad these days. trying to figure out if i need to find a chiro to go to...

i remember years ago [pre-dh, pre-kids] i used to see a chiropractor who worked on a lot of the elite runners in the company i worked for. i wasn't a runner but he would talk to me about the importance of chiropractic for runners since there is a lot of pounding of the pavement.

anyway - just wonderin' what y'all thought. thanks!

I see my chiro right now for my left hip problem. I can't be sure it's helping, though. Before I found him, I had tried two other chiros who specialize in different things I thought I needed, one of them recommended to me by my elite-runner landlord.

In the past, one of the three has been able to help me with any of my injuries .

Quick fly by to say thanks for all the beautiful Xmas cards! Dh is a little confused at all the kiddo pics, until I explain where all these new friends have come from! Mine will probably come after the holiday, which is pretty typical for me :.

I am STILL out of commission with this hip. Am going to try acupuncture, if that doesn't work, then I have to give up and try an epidural or maybe at that point suck it up and see a cut-happy ortho doctor. I have an awesome chiro and massage therapist that do incredibly work on the muscles, but nothing holds - they just snap right back again, pulling my hip out. I get so depressed about not being able to do anything, especially now that we have snow and I want to SKI!

Hey, Mandy, did you hear, Taos finally is opening up to boarders! Want to come visit this spring?!

Poppy, I love my chiro, even if she hasn't cured me, lol! She's kind of unusual for a chiro in that she's a specialist in myofascial pain, ie muscles, and doesn't do a lot of "back cracking" type chiro.

I tried a chiro for my hip injury. He did that thing where they use the machine to test to see if you are out of alignment or whatever, and I was totally in the normal range. He suggested therapy anyway, and promised he could help. It did nothing, and he blamed it on me not going more than twice a week. Dude, even twice a week is freaking expensive. I gave up and came to this conclusion: Quack! :

I lifted for legs tonight, including adding squats to my repertoire. Holy crap, I'm going to be sore from that. I don't trust myself to do them on my own, but luckily I lifted early tonight so DH could watch me and tell me when I started to mess up. Squats are awesome exercises, but you can mess yourself up pretty badly if you don't do them correctly. I won't be doing them without his supervision for a while.

No run yet. (As of today, it has been a week.) I'm still really tired. I picked up an iron supplement and a magnesium supplement. I know someone said not to take the mag & calcium at the same time, but is it okay to take it at the same time as the iron? Anyway, I'll run tomorrow for sure. As of Saturday I'm not sick anymore. Hooray!!

Hi Dingos! I have been reading along but just haven't had much to say. Things are going pretty well here. I had bloodwork done again last week and yesterday my OB left me a msg with the results - it is down to 11 from 19 on 11/19. He didn't say anything about my activity level, so I called today but didn't get to talk to him. I am guessing he will tell me I can go back to work; however, I must admit that what I'd really like to know about is whether I can go off pelvic rest and start walking for exercise! I went to a holiday dinner tonight for our community handbell choir at the home of one of the members who happens to live in my neighborhood. She lives right on my old running route and just walking there and back in the dark made me have pangs for my old life when I was a runner. I know that I will have that life back someday but certain things make me long for it so much, like seeing other people running or driving by places where I used to run. My poor road bike is neglected now in the basement and I think about that a lot too. Anyway... I won't go into my thoughts about going off of pelvic rest because I believe that would qualify as TMI for even this group, but let's just say I'd be quite thrilled if that restriction could be lifted, or even, um, partially lifted.

I am really enjoying all the cards coming in and am hoping to get mine out in the next few days. I'll go ahead and warn you in advance that there are no pictures included in ours... but I'm definitely planning for that next year! It has been so fun to see all your faces and those of your beautiful children. And JayGee, I have to say you have some of the neatest handwriting I have ever seen!

Lofty, : to D. I showed EK the 2006 camping trip pics tonight and she enjoyed seeing them again. We all had a good laugh at the ones that showed how filthy she got playing in the dirt.

Plady, I think your teacher gifts sound great. And for Mighty-Mama... what a heartbreaking situation. I have been following along and I just can't imagine how hard that must be for the family.

Pumpkinseed, glad you are getting out for some runs. Will you post a pic of DD's finished skirt on the knitting blog or somewhere? I bought the yarn to make one for EK but haven't done it yet.

Y'all may remember EK's fixation with Angelina Ballerina and all things ballet for a while. She's eased up on it quite a lot, but yesterday we took her to see The Nutcracker. She had a great time and it was really neat to see her enjoy something so much, and to go to something "grown-up" where we didn't have to bring a coloring book and crayons to entertain her.

I have a question for y'all... the director of our community handbell choir (he and I co-founded it) is going through a rough time financially. He is married with two teenaged daughters. He's kind of enough years older than me that he's not exactly a friend, but he's not exactly a father-figure either. I don't really know how to describe my relationship with him. Anyway, I would really like to do something nice for him/his family for Christmas but I am having a hard time figuring out what would be appropriate. They don't talk much about their situation but I know they are having a hard time and I wish I could do something to help even just a tiny bit. I don't want to make them feel like they should gift us in return, and don't want to make them feel uncomfortable, so I just can't figure out what is right in this situation. I thought you wise ladies might have some words of wisdom.

Hope you are all getting your week off to a good start!

Hey, Poppy -- have you tried ice on your back, too? Is the problem muscle spasms/guarding? Cold is better for that -- heat can actually make it worse.

I've got nothing against moderate chiropractic care -- a lot of PTs are trained to do many of the same spinal manipulations (but, depending on the state, aren't always legally allowed to do them -- like in WA). I just hesitate in expounding the virtues of frequent, routine visits without a comprehensive wellness plan that includes a neuromuscular strength assessment and a strength/rehab plan to ultimately fix the problem - not just alleviate symptoms.

With that being said, I wish I'd had access to one when I was pregnant so I could have alleviated the symptoms of my Pubic Symphysis Dysfunction! Yikes, that was a beyatch and a half.

I put a tree up! I couldn't handle the thought of not having one again this year. It's a fat little 4-footer and it's on top of an old end table, so *hopefully* Nevie won't be able to mess with it too much!

Maybe I can cajole my parents to make sure it stays watered until we return from our Oregon travels next week. I like it up through New Year's.

OK, off to see if Tennessee allows their PTs to do spinal manipulations. That way, you can get the "crack!" the plan, the ice, the massage... all in one stop shopping! :-) :-)

Yikes, Geo, that's quite a rash. Is it only on his back? Did the benadryl have any effect?

geo - i left a comment on the rash.

i too am loving all the cards coming in. but feel awful because DHL has not delivered my cards yet. I designed them and ordered them on November 25th and they were shipped on December 4th - and they still haven't seen fit to deliver them. i keep calling DHL, and calling the place that printed them, and they keep lying that they're going to deliver them - and they don't arrive. they haven't even scanned them since the 13th. i'm mad now and feel because i want to send out my cutie-pie to everyone.

ds has his preschool holiday sing this morning. it's not his usual preschool day, so a friend is helping me to get him from the babysitter and back so he can attend. And I will be able to pop out of work to see it, so that's a good thing.

some abs done this morning. feeling lazy. with all these 'special' things going on, it's hard to find the time to get some exercise in. my after work date canceled, so maybe i'll be able to swim after work. we'll see.

DD's is today, too! I'm so excited to see it! A bit worried about her freaking out afterwards when I have to leave, but very excited to watch her sing. She's been singing Christmas carols and doing the actions (!) all over the house for weeks, so hopefully she's ready. She missed the last practice on Thurs. due to her rash quarantine, but even if she stands there looking lost I'll still love it.

Yesterday after her nap she was eating a snack and I was unloading the dishwasher and being my usual goofy, silly self (the flip side to my uptight, rigid, controlling, perfectionist accounting self) and out of the blue she said "Mom?" and I said "What?" and she said "I really missed you." Awww... : It's good to go away, just so you can come home.

Oh, and just to clarify, the sickness I got over was stomach related, not the possible 5ths that DD had. It was like IBS all over again. Awful. Made me think of Beth and how bad she had it, so I was thankful mine wasn't quite as awful. At first I thought it was just bad shrimp, but can you really be sick from bad food for 4 days?! I'm guessing it was just something viral.

Monica - I think you can be sick from bad shrimp for 4 days. I'm glad you're better.

Geo - I don't have any thoughts on that rash but Holy Cow! I hope it clears up fast.

: I have yet to get our cards worked out at all. They may have to be Three Kings Day cards.

Happy Birthday Loftson! Watch your email!

I go to a chiro about once a month. I have gone to a "quack" before who did nothing for me, but the one I have now I have gone to for about five years (since dd's birth) and he has helped with lots of things. He is a former track runner and will also do massage if needed, and teaches us all kinds of stretches to help us with chronic stuff. But obviously there are some things that even chiro can't get to, YK?

must do yoga now, or will have NO time later!
