Myself, I just turned down job offer (for crappy PT job) #3. Could the universe get it together and make those offers when I am actually looking for a job?

congrats, mamabeth! sounds like that was something you really wanted.

i woke up at 5 AM today, had the perfect opportunity to run while dh was getting ready to work, but i did some computer work instead. now it's near 11 and i'm wasting more time at the comp. don't know if i'll just stick the kickboxing video in again or what.

hope everyone who is sick feels better soon. i hate being sick in the summer, nothing worse than that.

Go Beth!!! I owe you an email, btw.

Dh got home yesterday evening from a 3-day trip and I did a nice 4 miles this morning. Ahhhhhh... mama feels less stressed. I'm starting to feel like I can actually do the 10K at the end of September.

I got the keys to my office yesterday - I'm a little woozy with the power. They finally told me I had email and gave me the password set-up protocol and I had 55 emails! My co-worker and I hauled a bunch of furniture to the hallway outside our office to make a student lounge. Mmmmm, fake ficus!

:: Yay, mamabeth!!!! Congratulations! They're lucky to have you and don't you forget it!

Happy Anniversary, Plady! Sounds like your dh is feeling better emotionally now. Is that so?

We're getting ready to head to Ocean City, MD for a week of honky-tonk, beachy wonderfulness. It's been a long time coming and I can't wait to watch the sunset over some water.

I have to run 15 miles by myself while I'm there. It's new distance for me and I'm a little freaked about not having a partner to support me. Dh just said he wants to try it but he's never run more than ten miles in his life. Is it stupid for him try? Is he likely to get injured? I'd love the company but I don't want him to be foolish.

Mamas, I need some advice. I'm very sick ~ fever of 103.1, chills and shaking, the sorest neck I've ever felt in my life and a headache that 800mg of Motrin isn't touching. My neck hurts so badly I just want to cry. It radiates down into my arm and thoracic spine and I've been laying in bed since about 3:00pm. I have cold/flu symptoms as well, with achiness, stuffy nose, coughing, etc. And I found out today that hand, foot, and mouth is making the rounds at the YMCA child center .

So, should I go to the ER? I'm worried about meningitis, to be honest. I've never felt a headache like this, ever.

Jaygee~I'd say go. And do it now, before it gets any later and the Friday night crazies start making their appearance in the ER. The sore neck is worrying, and a 103+ fever is nothing to take lightly either. Go get checked. :

towson~What about having him join you for part of the run? You could do the first half by yourself and then have him join you for the second half. I would be worried about him doing that distance if he hasn't been training to work up to it, and we all know what babies men can be about pain, so I wouldn't want that to screw up my vacation, kwim?

So, needless to say I am NOT napping. Right as I'm getting ready to lay down, the phone rings. It's the biker's nephew. Essentially giving us an ultimatum that unless we can come to a financial agreement tonight, they're going to have their lawyer contact us tomorrow. : H called him back and he pretty quickly backed down, but I *just* stopped shaking, nearly two hours later, so napping was not gonna happen. H has calls in to a couple of lawyers, but being that it was 3:30 on a Friday afternoon, I'm sure we won't hear anything until Monday. It's all just so ridiculous, we're willing to be nice (or at least WERE), but we get threatened because we're not moving fast enough? And they haven't even mentioned a number of how much they want from us, because they don't even have any bills yet. We've offered multiple times to go ahead and file a claim with our homeowners' insurance, but no, they'd rather just handle it privately. Which seems to me indicates that motives there are not entirely pure. Blork.

And I feel kind of bad because H is under a ton of stress at work right now AND he thinks he may have shingles. He really doesn't need this stress right now, but he's being absolutely phenomenal about it. He keeps telling me that it will all be fine, it's just money. And you know what, he's right. Still doesn't help with the stress of it all, though...

*SO* not his call. It's like you back into somebody in a parking lot, and they want you to pay out of pocket instead of contacting *your* insurance. Yeah, no. I'd call your homeowners' right away and direct all of his future calls to your rep there, who has experience with this kind of thing. If he's angling for some big money thing, an insurance company isn't going to just roll over.

Sorry for the doggie metaphor.

Jaygee, you went, right? I hope so...

MB, way to go! I'm focusing now on the prayer and waiting, and it is HARD! Well done!

JenLove, I have been to that shop once. (I don't get out much.) AWESOME baby gifts for NFL-type folks, and of course totally family friendly. A super-nice bunch of people and a great place to network. I work about 4 blocks down the street.

Mandy, Mine goes back and forth, though he used to be like that nearly 100% of the time. I feel like I married a child, and he recently grew up. There's still a lot he just doesn't do, but there's a ton more he does do. I did change my reaction, and while I am usually not a tit-for-tat girl (like, NEVER with money, for example), if the house is a mess and he is lounging, I lounge. Often, the next AM, when we are not tired, I say "let's do it," and we clean, whole family, together. We're done in like an hour or so, and he helps keep the kids from messing it all up before I am done, and I feel better. WHatever...I know how you feel; it's not the work itself. It's the sense of inequality.

I might go turn the TV on and try doing some writing while the kids watch...

Oh yeah, I agree, Penelope. The only reason that we're holding off is because our rates will go up if we file regardless of whether we're liable or not, so reaching a private settlement *may* actually be a little cheaper. And they don't want us to file because we've told them that our insurance company has told us that they don't think we would be found liable which means they wouldn't get anything. Now, we would rather that the injured man gets the money rather than our insurance company, but they may not leave us a choice, kwim?

The first thing you may wish to start with is to tell biker and nephew that you need everything in writing. They should not have a problem doing this as it is in their best interest to be very clear about what they want so there are no misunderstandings on your part.
You need the actual numbers of what they have paid so far. If this stuff has been billed to their insurance, some states have a minimum time that insurance companies have to process and pay or deny the claims. Usually something like 30 days or more.
You should not have to pay anything up front. They haven't paid anything out of pocket yet, and you shouldn't have to pay w/o proof. Criminey, they could just keep adding to what they want.
The length of time that is needed for the insurance companies to consider the claim should buy you some time. When you do get the bills, usually the facility/ ambulance company provides 30 days for the claim to be paid. More and more these same places are also offering a 10-15% discount if the deduc/co-pays are paid w/i 10 days or so of the billing date. If he pays the bill and then asks you to reimburse, find out if this applies. Could save you a bit more money.

So all together, the above actions may buy you 60 days minimum to sort this out.

JayGee - I hope you are already in the ER by the time this post hits. Let's hope it's just bad flu-like symptoms, but those are scary symptoms. I hope you are feeling better soon.

tjsmama - I don't know the right answer, just wanted to offer more hugs.

I had a weird day. My belly is just really bloated and sore, but it doesn't appear to be GI, which is odd. Anything that jostled my belly made me sore. This afternoon I felt sweaty and flushed, and took my temp and it was 99.8 - which isn't really high, but is much higher than my basal temp. I finally took a couple ibuprofen, and then sweat a lot. I thought I'd have to cancel the 5K tonight regardless because I had a 1st time mom client arrive in labor at 3:20 this afternoon - but shockingly, she managed to have her baby at 5:10! She pushed her baby out partly squatting on the bed with the squat bar. She managed to get into some crazy positions - at one point she looked sort of like she was limbo-ing under the squat bar hanging onto it with her hands and I was a afraid she'd fall right off the end of the bed. I suggested she try kneeling since she was squatting so far forward she was practically kneeling anyway - and in the end she put one knee down and had her other heel under her, sort of a half-squat, half-kneel thing. Her baby is gorgeous - tons of dark, thick hair (the dad is of Mexican descent) and beautiful dark eyes with long eyelashes. I was excited to have a 08/08/08 baby!

So, after baby was out and mom settled, I picked up Justin (my little ds, not dh!) and we headed to the little town 15 miles away to the 5K. This is the 8th year in a row I've done this 5K, an out and back through the cornfields. It's a tiny town, and practically the whole town turns out to watch us run. I planned to run with Justin, and dh planned to push dd in the jog stroller. I was so proud of Justin - he took just 3 short walk breaks, and otherwise ran the whole thing. The last mile he was really sucking air and struggling and I just kept talking to him and was able to keep him running and breathing in rhythm. He outsprinted me the last 50 yds - I can outlast him and run faster over the long haul, but he can easily outsprint me now! He finished in 31:54, and I was right behind in 31:56. Dh finished in 30:13, pushing the jog stroller. Justin is really proud of himself, and already talking about his next race.

We are watching the opening ceremony now - I'm anxious to see some events already!

I have 11 solo miles on tap for the early am. Wish me luck!

Being the newbie here it's hard to keep up with all these stories and I feel weird jumping in but I am anyways. LOL.

Jaygee - hope you got a good answer from the hospital and that you are recovering!

doctorjen - what a sweet story! You must be so proud of Justin!

So I went to the local running shoe store yesterday and talked to the owner there who is a well known runner around here. Told him about my knee issues - he had me walk around the store and told me that my arch is really good, I'm not pronating. The shoes I had should have been fine but they are really heavy so he put me in something lighter. He also said they were already showing a lot more wear than they should have for the 12 miles a week I'm running - but the good news is that the wear was even so I'm not doing anything strange with my feet that needs correcting. He checked out my knee and my legs and said that my quads are super tight so he thinks that might be causing the problem - so he recommended that I use a rolling pin on my quads to loosen them up prior to stretching. He showed me some sort of big heavy styrofoam thing I can eventually use to do the same thing - but he said at this point if I tried it I would go through the roof so to start with the rolling pin.

I also picked up a copy of Chi Running yesterday after reading about it at the yoga studio the other day. Has anyone used the book or taken a Chi Running class?

11 miles - done already. I got up at 6 and took off so I could be done when my call starts. I was lonely, but other than that, it wasn't too bad. It's cool here this morning, only about 63 when I finished even, which is a nice change, even though it's still really humid. I ran the 11 miles in 1:56:07 - 10:33 pace, which I'm quite satisfied with. Next week is a bigger jump - 17 miles, 2 miles farther than I've ever run. Feel free to spend this week telling me that 2 miles more is nothing! (All of that really helped last week for the 15.)

My tummy still feels bloated and a little achy, but it still doesn't seem like a GI bug and running doesn't bother it, so who knows. AF is due, so maybe that's it? I've found since having my last baby I don't have hardly any actual period symptoms as far as cramping, or whatever, but I have much worse physical pre-menstrual symptoms and a lot of cramping with ovulation.

On call all weekend, which I'm not looking forward to, and I have 3 mamas who are 39 weeks+, so we'll see. I'm glad I got the long run in and done with.

HelloKitty - please don't feel weird jumping in - we are a chatty bunch, but we are also an interested and nosy bunch and we love hearing about everyone's lives! I'm glad you got the new shoes, who knows, maybe there was something that just didn't quite fit you. I recently had to switch shoes after using a similar model for a long time. It turns out with the longer training I'm doing that I start pronating when I'm tired, something I didn't know I did. My shoe guy hooked me up with some well-cushioned stability shoes - I've always run in neutral cushioned shoes before this - and the new shoes feel heavenly.

Way to go on 11 miles already this morning doctorjen. You can totally do 17 next week!! Us Dingos will be cheering for you. Just picture some of us along the side of the road/trail those last 2 miles.

HelloKitty - Glad you're just jumping in!

Jo - I won't be seeing you today. Turns out BIL is in town for the Waterfront Festival in Menominee.

Speaking of which, my DH ran the 5K at the Waterfront this morning. I kind of felt guilty not just signing up and wogging it. Darn ego! I'm definitely motivated now though... I may just change after this update and go out for a little bit.

Thanks for all the good wishes! :

hellokitty, I think jumping in is the only way to keep up. glad you got some answers about your knees and that the store guy was helpful! I pronate some but run in more or less neutral shoes and it works better for me too.

3.1 miles this morning to go get my car from the shop. I drove it home and saved $2 in gas, dh figured out so even with the wheeze I managed to do 14 miles this week, and I'm proud of myself. it was so beautiful out today that when I got home I even did some gardening which DESPERATELY needed to be done. then we are headed to indian buffet today, yum. Dh has been working so much that I feel like I haven't seen him in weeks, but we finally got to hang out last night and watch the opening ceremonies as both of us are olympic geeks. and today he is not working for the first Saturday in FOREVER. whew.

gigi, emailed you and the rest of the atl dingoes!

drjen, I'm starting to have weird ovulation stuff like that too. is it catching?
