ok so I've been to lowes, home depot, the farm store, and a locally owned garden store in my smallish town, and i still can't find 3/4 160psi irrigation tubing. it is usually black right? i found some white that was close, like 3/4 100 psi or something like that. i could care less about the color but i was wondering if there is a difference in the weight/material of black verses white. also the white stuff i found only comes in 10ft or 400ft. i think 10ft would be smallish and 400ft would be ALOT of hoops. any suggesttions?

yay! I found someone to teach me tricks! And the reason why the tutorials didn't help is that my hoop was really, really heavy. i'm excited.

Lower than 160 psi will work, I just prefer the heavier weight. That's not to say you can't add something inside (sand, water, etc.) to make it heavier--just watch how much you add. I like using 100 psi for kid hoops.

On another note, I decorated a few hoops this week...I need to post pics because I think they turned out really cool! One of them is my new favorite and looks like Rainbow Brite...when I get the pic up, you'll know what I mean

I've gotten it from this website:

http://www.identi-tape.com/links.html

Warning on that tape though--it has backing and doesn't stretch well. I did 2 or 3 hoops with fun sparkly tape and it was SO annoying to do. I switched back to electrical tape because it's forgiving Don't know though if anyone else has any other sources of fun tape that's more user friendly?

I think that's what I got, too. It's for potable water? I couldn't find anything black, but this one said 3/4" and 160psi so I figured it would work.

The colored tape was expensive! Holy moly! It doesn't need to be taped though, right? I figured I'd start with the hoop and go from there.

After all of this effort, I'd better be able to learn this time!

Oh my! This thing is AMAZING!! I put the white pipe stuff together tonight (took what? 2 minutes? I didn't tape it) and I'm beside myself. I can keep it off the ground!!!!!! : : :

I've tried those cheap toy store hoops 29475028274 times and could never do it. This thing is magical. I am in love.

Greatest thread ever. : :

I couldn't sleep last night so I started browsing threads and ran across this. Lets make a short story even shorter and say that I have tubing, couplers and tape sitting here next to me now. My kids are totally stoked, as am I.

Okay, so I got them all made. One for me and each of my sons.

Pic

Each kiddo chose their favorite color tape for the stripes (red, blue and orange) and I did my favorite... rainbow

I tried to get a few shots of the kids "hoopy-looping" but the only camera I have is on my phone and it just didn't end well.

hey there all you mamas who think you can't hoop...i have been really interested in hooping, but a bit intimidated b/c even as a kid, I could never do it! and i was a gymnast so i was definitely flexible...WELL, last night i was over at a friend's house and she has a few hoops(the nice, home made, heavier ones), I picked one up, stepped into it, gave it a whirl, and.....YES!!: I WAS HOOPING!!!! I couldn't stop!I was hooping, and smiling and giggling, and then after a few minutes I was even sweating. It was awesome, and I just wanted to share that with you all. My friend said I could borrow it, but somehow with two kiddos, diaper bag, etc, it didn't make it to the car. This week I am going to clear a spot in my basement and go grab that thing and get to hooping!

Sunny~

Glad you found the hoop love. I have not been able to hoop really bc of my pregnancy (had a scare so I was given limitations).

Have fun hooping it up!!

i love it love it!!! been hooping EVERYDAY for almost 2 months!!!
just an FYI... i originally got white tubing that is meant to be connected with an outside connector but i didn't know that and had gotten the inside connecter, i rigged it anyway. for those looking to make your own stick to the black tubing. which i have now thanks to my cousin’s water pipe breaking, i never would have spent the money on a huge roll, but he did and gave me the rest, which is a lot.
i have made one for a birthday girl and some more for christmas presents

Thanks. I have actually now hooped a couple of times but being limited to indoor hooping has put a damper on things. I am not lucky enough to have a basement (would not want one where I live either since they tend to flood pretty easily around here).

When you get good you will have to take a video and post it for us!!

I'm so glad I found this thread! :

I discovered hooping earlier this summer at the Britenbush summer solstice festival and I thought it was so much fun. I looked around my area for classes or workshops but couldn't find a single one. I got discouraged and decided to just forget it for now.

Somebody reminded me about hooping a couple days ago and I decided that if I couldn't find a class I was just going to try to learn on my own. I found that site about how to build your own hoop last night and I made two hoops today: one for my daughter and one for myself. They turned out pretty nice and I am so excited to give mine a shot!

One problem, though: my living room isn't too large and I am afraid of doing some damage to the TV or my potted plants. I can't wait to try hooping outside on a regular basis, but with 8 inches of snow on the ground and four more months of almost constant rain I think I'm going to have to wait. Aaarrrgg! I wish I had some place to hoop!

How do I know how heavy a hoop to get? I am debating between a 3, 4 and 5 lb. water filled one. I have a lot of weight to lose and have never successfully hula-hooped in my life. Lol! Help...
Thanks...

So I'm totally stoked now. I always loved hooping - it was definitely my favorite part of gym growing up! And to find out how easy it is to make your own heavier, not bent hoop is fantastic! Y'all are my inspiration!!! :

Ditto!! I have been thinking that I really need to get some more physical activity but I've never been a go-to-the-gym type of gal. I also need a reason to get outside more often. I LOVE hula hooping, but I've only used the toy store ones, and done the regular old style. I pride myself on winning two hula hoop contests when I was like 10 and 14 years old. I always admired the hoop girls in shows, but now that I now I can make my own hoop??? And learn tricks on YouTube?? Hell yeaaahhh, I am in! :

I just ran out and bought some pipe from Home Depot. It says 3/4" PVC IPS. It says nothing about PSI anywhere, and it was the only 3/4" black tube and the store was about to close. When I cut the ties off, it seemed way too flexible. Plus I just noticed the roll is 50ft, not 100. Double Guess I'm taking it back tomorrow.
