We just put DD on the GAPS diet and she and I are both off of nuts and eggs while we try to figure out some allergies. None of us handle dairy. Both of us eat quite a bit. DH has high protien needs too. So she is grain, potato, egg, nut, dairy, soy, bean free. Basically, There is nothing inexpensive to feed her.
Is there even way to do this on a budget? We try to keep our grocery budget around $450 a month. I try to buy as much organic as I can but I can't do everything. Most of our veg is organic at this point. I am trying to buy better meat but we are going through so much right now I am not sure we can afford it. (Please spare me the comments on how factory meat is awful- I already know.) I can get organic gr.beef and chicken at costco but even that is twice as much. We are working on saving for a freezer and part of a cow. I am looking for pastured chicken but so far all I can find is $12 for a 2.5-3lb. chicken. We may be able to get some good lamb from some friends in the spring for very cheap. I joined a CSA that starts in May and will grow a garden this summer but that doesn't help right now.
I guess what I am asking is: Is there something I am missing? Without eggs and nuts this is very expensive.
