How much vitamin D is safe to take and give to the baby? If I take 1000-2000 iu's and then give my EBF baby 400 iu's is that safe? My OB said yes but my family Dr. said No. I live in Michigan so there is not much sun in the winter. Since it is summer right now, should I just skip drops and let the sun do it's work? What about in the winter though? TIA :)

I'm not sure what the professionals say, but we take a much larger amount than you list. I've read varying articles about it. Perhaps someone else with more experience will pop in!

400 IU is appropriate for baby. I take 4000-5000 IU daily (my levels were on the low end of normal and I was pregnant and trying to up them). I may back off to 2000 IU if the sun ever decides to shine. We are in WI.
