I've heard that there's a way to set up my crock pot to cook McCann's (sp?) Irish oatmeal and have it all ready in the morning. I love this oatmeal but it takes HOURS to cook according to the directions on the package. Any help much appreciated!!!

I don't know about the crock pot. Do a search as I remember a thread awhile back about oatmeal in a crock pot.

But I cook steel cut oats all the time! Very high fiber for my low-sugar/carb lifestyle. They take 30-45 minutes, I sometimes get it going and turn to very low for 1 hr. I start it as soon as I am up and by the time everyone is ready to eat, the oatmeal is ready too. There is a "quick cook" suggestion on the box (McCanns) it is something like put the oatmeal in the boiling water the night before, stir, turn off heat, put the lid on the pot and in the AM all you have to do it heat it up. I always say I'm going to do that but just start first thing in the morn instead.

How do you eat yours? After years of "needing" brown sugar on my oatmeal now I like a dab of butter w/ a little salt or a spoon of 100% fruit jelly or fresh fruit.

How many carbs in steel cut oats? does anyone know?
I really miss them from my childhood but I am a no-sugar-low-carber.
