I'm thinking of buying a bread making machine. Any suggestions on the best brand? Cost is a factor, so I need a good machine that doesn't cost an outrageous amount.

You might want to consider a stand mixer with a dough hook might find it far more flexible then bread machines. When my 12 year old bread machine dies I will replace it with a stand mixer.

just mho, ymmv

I LOVE my bread machine! I've had one for aboout 6 years and use it 2-3 times per week. Mine is a Breadman, and it's excellent. It can be programmed to meet your needs and it also has lots of pre-programmed options. I use it to make wonderful pizza dough, foccacia, and lots of different kinds of yummy bread.

I've also heard great things about the Zojurishi machine.
