I'm a fledgling in the concept of eating within your local growing season, but I'm enjoying trying to prepare seasonal produce.
Does anyone know where I could get a guide, preferable on the internet, for seasonal harvest bounty for the upstate New York area? I don't always know what's naturally harvested in my area at what times. Sometimes I go to a farmer's market, and they have strawberries or something and they end up being shipped in from California. So I get confused because I don't have an extensive garden myself, and I'm used to shopping in grocery stores where you can get anything at any time of year.
I know the very basics, but I'd like to know more specific information. I think it would also help me to celebrate the seasons, which I love to do. And I think it'd be a good thing to teach my ds as he grows up.
P.S. - just wanted to say, you all have helped me grow so much. Before mothering.commune, I just wasn't quite so "aware" of these sorts of things, and I wouldn't have been asking this question. I enjoy being able to 'come to the mountain' to ask the experts. Anyway, thanks.
