Calcium Related Snack Ideas for Childbirth Class - Mothering Forums

Each week in our Bradley childbirth classes someone brings a snack related to a particular food group or vitiman we should be eating while pregnant. We're signed up for "Dairy," which I assume just means a good source of calcium.

There are people in class who do not eat dairy products at all, so I'm searching for something interesting and good to bring that everyone will enjoy. So far my thoughts are a tofu herb (like cream cheese) spread with whole grain crackers (my dh tasted it somewhere and told me about it) or a broccoli salad with sesame seeds. If I do the salad then I have to mess with bringing forks and plates, which I'd like to avoid if possible.

Any other ideas? I'd like to be more creative than cheese and crackers!

Here are some non-dairy foods rich in calcium...
*sesame seeds (tahini dip w/ vegis and pita bread would be great)
*dark, leafy greens (kale, spinach, collards, chard)- maybe a yummie marinated dark green salad
*broccoli
*garbanzo beans (you could do broccoli w/ hummus dip)
*pumpkin (pumpkin muffins)
*nettle tea

**the tofu spread is a great idea!
