my grandmother and i love to make hummus! you can use either a fodd processer or a blender, or like we did in the 'ol days was just mash everything together with a potato masher. you can add garlic powder, lemon juice, chili powder, olive oil, and i think that is it...add more of what you like and less of what you don't..we always started off with not enough of everything, and added things in and stopped when we liked the taste. i think we liked the more lemon and garlic, and if you can think of anything that would be good try it! hope this helps

When I make hummus I just toss in the blender: 1/3 cup lemon juice, 1/4 cup tahini, 3 or so cloves of garlic. I blend that then slowly add about 2 cups of chickpeas and 1/3 cup warm water. Sometimes to make it extra tasty, I'll roast a red pepper or 2 to throw in. Yummy!

My recipe isn't very exact, but we like to add 3 cloves of garlic, a handful of black olives, salt, pepper and a bit of lemon juice (if we have it) to about 1 1/2 cups of cooked chickpeas. We blend it in the food processor and add water as needed.

This Spinach Hummus is quite often requested as my "price of admission" to parties. Very easy and yummy!

Spinach Hummus

2 cloves garlic
2 large green onions
1 can (15.5 oz.) chick peas, drained
10 oz. frozen chopped spinach, thawed but not squeezed dry
1/3 cup fresh lemon juice
1/3 cup water
1/3 cup tahini (drain off oil before measuring)
1/4 teaspoon cumin
1/2 teaspoon salt
Hot pepper sauce to taste

Put all ingredients into food processor or blender. Puree until desired smoothness. Can be made a day ahead and refrigerated, covered airtight.

Enjoy!

This will be the best hummus you've ever tasted. (It's even better after it's been in the refrigerator for a day.) And I've found it's really good with organic blue-corn chips.

2 large cloves garlic
1 small onion, chopped
olive oil
1 can chick-peas, rinsed and drained
1/4 cup tahini
1/4 cup lemon juice
1/2 tsp. salt (optional)
1/8 tsp. cayenne pepper (optional)
3/4 cup fresh basil leaves, packed (no stems)

Saute garlic and onion in olive oil. Then put garlic, onion, chick peas, tahini, lemon juice, salt and cayenne pepper in a blender or food processor and blend well. Then add basil and blend again. Serve cold!

Hey, thanks a lot for all the tips, everyone! I am pleased to report back with hummus success! I basically used mamajulie's recipe as my guide and it is YUMMY!!! 3boysmom- I would love to try your spinach hummus but there is no way I could con my picky dp into trying it too. Maybe I'll make some for the next baby shower or gathering I go to.
