Not sure if this is the right spot for this...

I have a friend who has an 8 year old son. He has been hospitalized numerous times and is, in fact, in the hospital right now. They can't seem to get his "meds right" The only thing he has been officially diagnosed with is ADHD but now the Dr thinks he may be bi-polar as well (has threatened his sister many times and attacked sister and parents.) Could there be a possible food allergy here to account for some of his behavioural problems? TIA

Yeah, I think there is a board now for healthy eating and healing or something along those lines. If you can find it, you should be able to get some good help. Anyway, yes, food allergies can wang a kid out. Dairy stuff (this can be lactose [this is derived from whey and usually just causes constipation or other bowel discomforts] and/or casein [some kids can't break down this protein]), eggs, corn (gluten), wheats (gluten), sugars, soy, dyes, the list can go on and on. Many of these allergies seem to go hand in hand with the kids who are diag w/ADHD or on the autism spectrum, unfortunately. Your friend should look into elim diets like cf/gf for the 8 yo, and you can grab good info on diet, recipes, kefir'ing, gut healing and the such on sites like from Dr. Mercola and also following the BED diet (sorry, no links!). HTH!

This site has a bunch of links to allergy/adhd/autism sites. http://www.paleodiet.com/autism/

http://www.truehope.com/

This dietary supplement was co-developed by a man whose wife committed suicide because of manic-depression, and then two of his children were diagnosed. From what I've heard, (anecdotal ev., plus there is some research to back it up), it is extreemly effective.

Good luck.
