If you eat fish, do you give your toddler canned tuna or is it too high in mercury? I try not to eat it too often as I am nursing and ttc (once a month or even less) but sometimes I crave it. DD had some of mine today and I wondered if it is ok? She is almost 17 months.
Also what about nuts other then peanuts? When did you start? Is it true they are more likely to be allergic later if you start them on nuts earlier. I want to give almonds and cashews but have been holding off.
I love tunafish and so does dd, but I don't let us have it more than once a month-and try to have it less often then that.
on the nut issue I always thought it was one year before introduction unless you have food allergies in your family-then later or not at all. I know that there are newer guidelines about peanuts that discourage them-since they are in so many processed foods.
We started almond / cashew butter sandwiches sometime between 18 months and 2 years.
I'd say we have tunafish about 1Xmonth or less. We aren't too keen on PB but DD gets nut butters (cashew, sesame, almond, etc.) often enough.
DD took a while to develop a taste for bread so nut butter sandwiches took a while - prob'ly about 2 years old before she had more than a bite of a PB (Nut butter) & J.
We have mixed 1/4 cup sesame paste (tahini) with a tablespoon or so of miso - YUM (I got this from Cythia Lair's Feeding the Whole Family).
Most of the time DD gets nut butters on a spoon.
