I've want to stop using plastic wrap to cover my rising bread with, but if I don't use it my bread will dry out and not rise well. I tried a towel once, but when the bread rose it stuck to it. Not a problem on the first, but removing it from the second rising caused it to fall...

So what do you use to cover your rising bread with?!

I oil the bowl, put the dough into the bowl and turn it over so the whole thing is coated in oil. That helps prevent it drying out. Then I cover it with a flour sack towel (lint-free towel).

If it's still drying out, try getting the towel wet and wringing it out before covering the bowl.

Once I've shaped the bread, I don't cover it with anything. I let it rise uncovered. You could try inverting a bowl over the bread if you feel like it needs to be covered with something.

I always just use dish towels and have never had a problem. I sometimes forget to oil it too.

Cotton napkin. No problems. I don't buy cling wrap, so I can't say if it's better...

I use a piece of cheesecloth or light gauze. Only us it for the purpose. I may get a bread machine. Any suggestions?

I lightly oil the dough then cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel. My bowl is so big the towel doesn't touch the dough.

I just toss a cloth napkin over the bowl for the first rising and use the napkin again over the breadpan and/or cookie sheet(s) for the 2nd rising. I've never had a problem with the napkin sticking unless there wasn't enough flour in the dough.

nothing. I put it in the oven to rise & don't need to cover it. If it's on the counter I'll cover it with a tea towel but that's more to keep the animals, kids & anything else floating around out.

When I put it in the bowl I first oil the bowl & put the dough in, then I take the dough out & put the oiled side up so the bottom gets oiled too.

I also pre-heat my oven on the lowest temp for 3-5 minutes when I first start making the dough, then turn it off & when it's time to rise the oven is warm but not too hot that it'll cook anything. Then I rise for half the time the recipe says.

I often use my bread machine for bread dough (I no longer use it to bake the bread) and so I don't cover with anything. If I do the bread dough in the Kitchen Aid, I put a kitchen towel over the whole thing. I don't' think I've ever had a problem with dough sticking to a towel--maybe your dough is too wet?
