I'm trying to write out a grocery list/menu for the week and would like to use up some TVP that I bought from the bulk bins a couple months ago. Problem is, I really don't know how to use it. I assume that I need to reconstitute it with hot water, but what is the TVP to water ratio? Any favorite uses or recipes?

I've used TVP as a substitute for rice in dishes like stuffed cabbage. Mixed dry with the meat, stuffed and then stewed, it absorbs the water during the cooking process.

You can also cook it like you might couscous, just cover with boiling water and cover, letting it steam. I never measured it, though, so I can't help with that.

I throw it into chili and just add a little water. I haven't figured out what else to do with it....

The TVP I have says 1 cup of dried meal to 7/8 of a cup of water, mix and let it sit for ten minutes. I then use it like ground beef in casseroles and such. I have one recipe for a spaghetti casserole that originally says to sautee beef and onions together, and I just fling in the reconstituted TVP with the onions and pretend that it's the meat. It's worked great so far!
