I'm looking to make some coconut milk yogurt for dd and I, as we are dairy free right now. None of the starters that I can find here are dairy free, so I'm wondering if anyone has made yogurt using a powdered probiotic instead.

It needs the specific cultures thermopilus and bulgaricus. It can also have others, but it must have those two. If your probiotic has them you can give it a try for sure.

ETA: I bought a dairy-free culture from GI Pro Health. It was expensive but it lasts forever. I also always add capsules of whatever other probiotics I have on hand, just to get a broader spectrum of bacteria in there.

I would like to order from them but their website says they're backordered until mid-November and I also live in Canada - shipping is always hideously expensive from the states and we have to pay duty as well....

I'll check our current probiotics for those strains....

Thanks!

You can also get dairy-free starter from Custom Probiotics but its even more expensive - $50 instead of $30, but it does also have acidophilus in it which the GI Pro does not.
