I'm pregnant with baby #3 right now and fearing the engorgement more than anything else. With DS1 it wasn't so bad, it lasted maybe a day or two. With DS2 I went from an A cup to at least a D cup and stayed painfully engorged for 5 days. It was the most painful thing ever and nothing seemed to help. Please tell me it won't be even worse this time around! My LC did warn me that engorgement is much more painful the second time around but I never asked about the 3rd time. Any advice or tips to help ease the pain? I've tried cabbage, hot packs, cold packs, showers, and minimal pumping when all else failed.

I had heard that it was usually better with each subsequent child! Some moms don't feel engorged at all with baby 3. Are any of your older kids nursing? That will really help if they are.

I wish you a happy, non-engorged baby-moon!

Interesting. I wonder why the second was so much worse for me? I was not nursing DS1 when DS2 was born and DS2 has pretty much weaned at this point so I don't think there will be tandem nursing.

My first and second were about the same. Milk didn't come in until day 5 with #2, so it was later, but just as bad. With #3 I let her nurse as much as she wanted (which was a lot!) and I never had engorgement. I wouldn't have known the milk came in (less than 48 hours after she was born) except I saw the milk dribble out of her mouth.

OP, I had the same experience as you. Didn't really get engorged with first. With DD 2, there was NO mistaking when my milk came in, I woke up and took my bra off and had someone else's breasts about four cup sizes bigger!!

Lasted probably four days and it was worrisome. I'm fearing #3 as well. Wish I could help!

Lets hope for both of us that #3 is much easier. I swear I could have easily fed triplets with all of the milk that showed up with DS2. I couldn't even wear a bra or shirt for 3 days. I walked around with a towel to catch the leaks.
