When DS was born, I used the lansinoh nipple cream/ointment (whatever the term for it is) to help soothe my nipples when they became sore. This time around, I am vegan and cannot use the products commonly available in the store because they all appear to have lanolin (an animal product) in them. I know that Earth Mama Angel Baby makes a vegan substitute, but it appears to be expensive and I would have to order it (and pay shipping) - It might run close to $20 when all said and done.

Since I am still nursing a toddler, what are the chances that I will need this type of product anyway? If I buy it, I want to be pretty sure that I am going to need it!

I'd wait and see. It's possible, but less likely, I'd say.

I like the mind to be a dustbin of scraps of brilliant fabric, odd gems, worthless but fascinating curiosities, tinsel, quaint bits of carving, and a reasonable amount of healthy dirt.

I would think you would only need it if your new babe had a wonky latch at the beginning. Even then you could probably get away with breastmilk and some kind of cool gel pad or something simple

I agree with the others - I used it but I could have avoided. You might try something like olive oil too just gently wipe off before nursing.
