DS is 7 weeks old today. We have had troubles BFing from the beginning -- my milk came in 10 days after long induction and c-section. We began supplementing with formula per the docs orders on day 6 or 7 after birth because he had lost quite a bit of weight and I didn't understand just how bad it was to do that. Anyway -- I never felt "engorged" and my breasts have only leaked once or twice.
So, I've done what I could to proviode him with as much breastmilk as possible, even though he seems to want the breast for comfort only (he doesn't want to do the hard work for me!). In an effort to try and increase my supply, I've started some new things the past few days:
oatmeal for breakfast each day
lots of water
taking more milk special blend
forcingt the babe to nurse until he outright refuses
I also pump as much as possible, but get only 1-2 oz each session.
Today and last night, my breasts have been quite sore -- from under my armpits toward my nipple and from my collarbone toward my nipples. They don't really feel hard, but they are very tender.
Since I've not experienced engorgement, I'm wondering if they may be working toward engorgement? I haven't gotten anything extra from the pump lately and DS doesn't seem to want to nurse beyond what he gets from my quick letdowns.
If I continue to notice no changes in DSs BFing behavior and continute getting little from the pump, should I not be taking the herbs and doing the oatmeal to avoid plugged ducts, etc?
I'm in uncharted territory -- if you have any thoughts., please share!
