Red face Nursing 1 year old - help with calories!

Hi!

I am exclusively breastfeeding a 23 lb, 12 month old little boy. At this point he only wants to eat 1-2 tbsp of solids a day & still nurses 6-8 times a day. I am trying to maintain my weight, but cannot seem to find how many calories I should be aiming for so that I will not gain or lose weight. I keep reading "breastfeeding burns approximately 500 calories a day," but if I only eat an extra 500 calories each day, I lose weight. Surely a 23 lb one year old consumes more calories than a 10 lb newborn, right? I have tried "eating when hungry" but that varies widely from day to day. Some days I am not very hungry at all & other days I am ravenous! Can anyone help me get a good estimate of how many extra calories I am burning each day so I can know how much more to eat?

Thank you!

There are so many variables, many personal, concerning your caloric needs. Short of sending you to a nutritionist who could probably give you a personal recommendation, I'd stick with the "eat when hungry" method and watch your kid.
