pump cleaning - Ameda vs Medela

I have an Ameda pump for at home and a Medela Symphony kit for at work. The Ameda instructions say to sterilize before first use, then just wash in warm soapy water. The Medela ones say to sanitize daily. Does anyone know why the discrepancy? Is Medela just being more careful, or is there some difference in their materials? Or are they just trying to sell sanitizing bags?

Ameda is a closed system and Medela is an open system. Perhaps they are trying to avoid contamination. I used my Medela Pump in Style everyday at work and never sanitized the parts after the first time. I just washed them in soapy water.
