Is it OK to have dental work done while breast feeding...I'd have to have novacane (sp?) as well? How much of this would enter the milk. The ped says its OK only a litle bit would get into my milk....but even a little bit I don't really want to share with the babe ya know?? It is elective but needed (I have a "pirate tooth" (a yellow and funky cap) as one of Ds#1's friends put it) and need to get it repaired. Any Advice?
From what I've read it's fine while breastfeeding. I've had cavities worked on and a tooth pulled while breastfeeding - I did pump and dump my milk for a few hours afterward and just gave dd some milk from my pumped freezer stash to be on the safe side.
I had the same problem. When dd was 6 months, I had to have dental work. My dentist told me to pump and dump. But I later found out that I didn't need to do that. My La Leche league leader said that the freezing used in dental work does not enter the breast milk at all. because it is a local anasthaetic or something. She said it was not needed to pump and dump at all.
