What do you all think of taking Micronor while breastfeeding? This is the type of pill that is prescribed for breastfeeding mamas that supposedly won't affect milk supply. I got a Rx for it from my CNM but am hesitant to take it. I don't like the idea of ingesting hormones while breastfeeding, whether it will impact my supply or not. My preferred method of birth control is natural family planning, but I'm scared to use that until my cycles come back. I know about breastfeeding providing natural infertility, but am not willing to risk it. Any opinions out there about the pill? Thanks. Jen.

I do not take hormonal bc for any reason. I did NFP after my oldest was born and knew right away when I oed the first time (almost 9 mos pp). I'm not doing anything this time but nursing (taking that 2% chance). You really should check out BFing and Natural Child Spacing by Sheila Kippley. Micronor needs to be taken at the exact same time everyday to be 'effevtive' ans is known to cause lots of bleeding issues.

I'm on it (well a generic version) after ds2 was concieved using OTC birth control. It hasn't affected my milk supply- I started it when he was about 6 mos old. The nice thing about it is you can start it and if you see a negative effect, you can stop right away.

I took the same pill when I was nursing my dd, i only took it for a few mths, then quit, i hate the thought of taking meds while nursing. Though I do have a supply of the bc patches sitting in the medicine chest, been there for 4 mths, kinda hesitant to try them out too.
