Any literature that I can read on this subject? I really need a couple of mercury fillings removed/replaced. I am going to have the work done this week by a dentist who specializes in holistic dentistry. His removal procedures are very safe.

The dentist recommends that baby stops nursing for 48 hours after the removal. (is this necessary? Is this long enough?)

I have a 13 month old baby...she has just been eating solids for about 4 weeks.

Are there any good references I can read about this?

Anyone BTDT?

TIA!

You have mercury fillings? Are they insane? Whose idea was it to use a toxic heavy metal in someone's mouth? Especially the mouth of a fertile woman?

My guess is that he wants you to avoid bfing in case the removal process puts mercury into your body and it ends up in your breastmilk. Since your dd's 13 months, you're probably safe giving her pumped milk from a cup for a few days, if it is necessary.

Have you had her checked for mercury? I'm just stuck on the heavy metal in your mouth thing... I would be so worried that the mercury was in my blood stream, and bones, and organs. Actually, that'd be a good test, if you have noticeable mercury levels and your dd is fine, that'd mean that mercury doesn't pass via breastmilk.

My fillings are about 24 years old. The new ones will be ceramic or composite. Not sure which. I have to have them switched out...I moved my appointment a few days so I can research this a bit more.

I haven't checked either of my children for mercury~I know they have it from the environment and from the mercury crossing the placenta. Nice toxic world we live in.

I am pumping milk, but it is slow going!!! Thankfully I have a week to pump now.

You will have more exposure to mercury from removing the amalgam fillings than if they stay -- 24 years old but do they have to come out now while you're BFing?

Also, my DH (who will be a dentist in 1 year, 7 months, and 5 days... ) got me to read the following info and it really changed my mind about things. (And keep in mind I graduated with a degree in bioenvironmental science, am a pretty skeptical person, and don't take what "They" (government, mainstream health professionals, etc.) say at face value - ever.)
So, would I get an amalgam filling now? Probably not - if you can afford composite and the restoration can be made with composite and easily fixed in the future (composite isn't as strong and doesn't last as long as amalgam, generally speaking...) then there's no reason not to use composite for new fillings. (They look better too!)
But would I have my amalgam fillings removed? Definately not unless the tooth under it has a problem that requires it.

So check it out -- http://www.quackwatch.org/01Quackery...s/mercury.html

-- you don't have to agree with the title -- just read the whole thing and see how you feel afterwards...

HTH!!
