I have a small red lump on my left areola. It's really pretty far away from the nipple, almost onto the skin. It's tender, but not really painful. It actually looks like it's got a tiny head on it, like a pimple. All the info. I can find on the internet about plugged ducts says they are on the nipple. What is this thing? :

Well, I don't know where you have been reading, but no, plugged ducts can happen anywhere along the duct, on the nipple or deep inside the breast. yours may be a plug near the surface, or just some kind of zit?

Treat it with moist heat. Take a shower, and use warm wet washcloths when you get out, I used to sit next to a crockpot full.

If it is a plug in a duct, massaging it towards the nipple will help to move the backed up milk along. do this when you nurse, if it seems neccessary.
