Hey mommas,
I just need some reassurance about my baby. We just had his 6 mth well visit today and I was expecting to see that he weighed about 18 lbs. To my surprise, he is only 16.2 lbs, which doesn't seem like that would be a big deal, but he was a 9 lb 14 oz baby. He hasn't even doubled his birthweight yet. I don't know if I should be concerned or not. This was his first visit since he was 3 weeks old, so there really isn't any way to tell if this is normal for him. I guess I wouldn't be to concerned except that he doesn't seem to be nursing to well. He will be at the breast for a few minutes and then start pulling back on the nipple. I try to get him in closer, thinking if he latched back on properly, more milk will come and he won't pull. He is teething like crazy and I don't know if that had something to do with his behavior either. I generally only do one side at a sitting b/c he never nurses longer than 20 minutes (except right before bed, which could last up to 40 minutes). He also is an easily distracted baby! I always nurse him in the same spot to keep him focused. The doctor didn't seem to concerned, but she did mention that now than can keep track to make sure he is growing like he should. He is pretty active and alert...meeting all his developmental milestones. Oh, and I guess I should mention that he eats every 2 hours during the day, sometimes even every hour and goes one 5-6 hour stretch and then one 3-4 hour stretch at night. Am I just being paranoid because he isn't following the average bf baby?
Thanks for any advice and encouragement.
