DS will often furiously yank at my nipple while nursing (sometimes even delatching that way - ouch!). At times he will fuss while yanking too. I thought he might just want to suck without the milk but when I take him off he gets mad. I try burping him and it doesn't help.
Ideas anyone?

Sometimes babies do that if they're used to bottles. Has he had bottles?

My son was doing that around 6 weeks. I think he was going through a growth spurt?

Is he just pulling his head? Or body arching too? I get lots of head and body movement when she has gas; taking her off and bicycling/pooping helps. I also get head thrown back when she gets an unexpected let down. Is it at the end of nursing? If so, may be looking for another let down? In which case, you could try switching sides...

Mine's did that too(He never had a bottle then). Then one night my husband took him and walk him up and down and he just fell asleep(so I'm thinking all that time he really was sleepy and didn't want the boob, and then there's time when he wants it to sleep: ). So anytime he does that now we walk him to sleep. Other times he needed to burb.

Not sure about too much or too little milk. I don't do bottles. He does wiggle his whole body . Sometimes it's just his head wagging to and fro but other times he'll actually grab the boob and push it away while maintaining his jaws of death: ! I try burping - doesn't help. I've also tried switching sides and he'll do it on the other side too. Maybe it is a sleepy thing. Haven't tried that.

My ds does that all the time! He's 8 weeks too- and now he looks at me when he does it, and I swear he's smiling! I stop immediately when he does it and I put my boob away and tell him he's done. Another thing he does is scratch me with his little nails! I hold his little hands and tell him no! very gently-he seems to get it, but he gets furious none the less.

My 2 month old does that too... ow!! It's usally toward the end of a feeding, when I would think that the flow would have slowed considerable or ceased.

My Health Visitor told me that it was their way of stimulating the breast to make more milk........
Not sure about that really...my dd seems to do it if she's had an aggrivated evening. I'm not sure if it's because she's still hungry and going through a growth spurt, or if she is just in distress and nothing is helping so she's frusturated.
