My boy is 5 months old and still nurses very often. We are talking every 1-2 hours during the day and night. This isn't a problem for me since I am a SAHM so I am not complaining, but just wondered if this is still normal.

When he was about 3 months old he was tapering off to about every 3 hours, then it started picking back up again. At night we co-sleep so neither of us wake up fully to nurse, so I'm not even sure how often it happens (I dont look at the clock).

He only nurses on one side at a time. I have tried to get him to take both sides, thinking this will extend the time between feedings, but he won't. Once he's done, he's done. He will just lick my boob and smile and be silly and not eat anymore

I guess I just wanted someone to tell me that this is fine & I'm not doing anything wrong... Thank you!

Amanda , mama to my two boys: N (10/06) and : A (7/09)

I think eating frequently is normal. My babe (almost 6 mos) eats every 2-3 hrs during the day. At night she goes about 4 hrs, but I wouldn't mind her stretching that out as previously she was going 6 hrs at night and I got used to only waking once. We cosleep too but I still wake up. Getting her to eat both sides does make a difference at night. She's up for more quicker when we fall asleep on the first side. She usually does both during the day.

Kids are all different and they often change their eating habits frequently. My oldest ate hourly for years, my twins would only eat every 3 hours...until they turned a year and now they want to eat constantly too!!

Most go through periods of frequent eating with long stretches without.

Courtney wife to geek.gif and mom to 4 boys: chicken3.gif   . I need caffix.gif !
They're not typos. . . I can't spell!

Sounds like dd...who's also 5 months old!

In love with Dh since 1998. We created Ds (7.1.03), Dd (10.16.06) and Dd (3.16.09).

My 18 month old still nurses that often

Yes, it's normal. I think the most important thing is that you're able to semi-sleep through it at night. Frequent nursing is great as long as everyone is getting sleep!
