DD is 4 mos. old. After a couple of months of pain-free, easy nursing, it's starting to really hurt again. Although there are no actual teeth yet, I believe she is in the throes of teething. When she nurses now she is often gumming my nipples really hard---ouch! I take her off and try to put her back on again when it's bad, but that means we're popping on and off again a lot sometimes (with milk flying everywhere!). Any suggestions for coping with this, as I foresee this being a looooong road?

Mama to DD (06/30/07).

DS did this, and I just did what it sounds like you're already doing. I would watch him closely as he nursed and when he would change his latch (as if he was starting to bite down) I would unlatch him right away. I don't remember this "phase" lasting too long. Good luck!
