A friend of mine has a 1 year old and has been prescribed Zoloft for PPD. She is freaked out about it transferring to her milk. Can anyone tell me if it is safe to take?

zoloft is considered the safest anti-depressant for nursing. the most is known about it of any of them. it is fine, mama!

Yes it is okay. And it would be much better for her babe to have a happy mama!!! I have been on zoloft for 5 months and exclusively breastfeeding and all is well.

Check out kellymom. It has links to a study where they tested the blood serum levels of babies of Zoloft-taking breastfeeding mothers. A miniscule amount passed through to some, and in some none of the medication could be detected. It is the best anti-D to take while nursing. I probably wouldn't be nursing if I wasn't taking it because I'd probably be hospitalized for PPD.
