I went for an ultrasound to check my cervical length before my cerclage (cervical stitch) is placed.

I totally didn't expect to know the baby's gender yet... I am 14 weeks 4 days.

But guess what we could see???? VERY clearly

It's a :boypin BOY!!!!!!!!

WOW!

It sure did I knew it would.. they just wanted to make sure things were favorable for the stitch placement.
With my DD my cervix didn't open until sometime between 20-26 weeks (when they discovered it and I was put on hospital bedrest! I was lucky.)

Dr says I have the choice this time whether to get the stitch now when things look great or just keep an eye on my cervix and if it starts to change put a stitch in.

I am kinda torn...

will edit later... dd is screaming and throwing her piggy bank!

Congrats!! That's pretty cool to know so early. Glad your cervix measured OK, too

OT, but can I ask about the cerclage issue? When your cervix "opened" last time, how did you know? I ask b/c I had PTL with DS at 22 weeks, continuing throughout the pg (37 weeks). Though my cervix never dilated at all till after 32 weeks (1cm) they are unsure whether I have incomp cervix or whether something else triggered the ctx and then the ctx dilated my cervix. The idea of a cerclage scares me - especially the thought of the epidural so I'm hoping I won't need it. TIA for any info!!!

With an incompetent cervix, your cervix opens all by itself... without contractions... so that sounds like you might have had a different issue.
I had no real contractions until after my cervix was already 7 cm. i was lucky that my cervix didn't open earlier... many women have it worse than I do and lose babies because of it.

The cerclage isn't that bad itself... I had general anethesia for it, hospital standard and I really am glad that I was asleep for it.

The anethesia itself was the worst part!
My first stitch was VERY successful.. I was pregnant for 10 weeks longer with DS than I was with DD.

Feel free to ask any questions!
