My baby girl is 3 months old and very rarely happy. She has had all sorts of digestive issues since the beginning, which I have tried to treat naturally and conventionally, but nothing seemed to help. I finally went to a lactation consultant a couple weeks ago, and found out she has posterior tongue tie, bubble palate, and upper lip tie. We had the procedure to correct the ties, but still seem to have a long way to go. She does not know how to use her tongue properly, and so have to do sucking therapy to help with this. She is still extremely fussy and gassy with a lot of reflux due to her inability to suck and swallow properly.
Due to all of this, I feel I have developed PPD. Has anyone had luck with treating this naturally? It is so difficult to take care of a baby who is so dissatisfied with whatever I do. I also have a toddler, and feel like I have completely abandoned him. Any advice is very appreciated. Both my Dr. and midwife have recommended going on Zoloft, but I would like to avoid this...
I'm sorry that you are going through this.
There's a thread in here somewhere about treating PPD with fish oil. I think it calls for 1,000mg of EPA daily, and it's as effective as Prozac. Plus, there are so many other benefits of taking fish oil.
My sister has been using this to treat her PPD, and she says she can really notice a difference. I take salmon oil, and I can tell when I forget to take it for a few days.
In my opinion, it's worth a shot. Even if it doesn't work for PPD, it's still really good for your overall health.
They are talking about a specific brand of fish oil, but neither my sister nor I take that kind. I use the New Chapter WholeMega, and I can't remember what kind my sister ended up getting, but it came from GNC. I think as long as you're getting the 1,000mg of EPA it should be ok.
