This prompt comes straight from 'Room to Write' by Bonni Goldberg...

"Today choose a simple action---riding a bike, making a bed, changing a tire---and explain how to do it from beginning to end, without referring to what the action is. Whenever possible, describe rather than name. For instance, if you choose making a bed, rather that refer to sheets, describe what they are, i.e.,sixty inch by eighty inch rectangles of cotton cloth."

Have fun.....

my belly hurts, it is full...
no it is empty, i say, thinking to myself how strange that these sensations feel the same to them...

i want a baygel. my eldest, ian, demands.
tanner, what do you want? i ask the youngest
"eggs"

so i begin:

groggily i make the dark brown substance that aids me in the process. i wash out the glass canister and then fill it with purified water. i get the bag of coffee beans out of the freezor. I grind them in the electrical grinding mechanism. then, i pour out the ground substance into the container and into the unbleached paper ...

geez, kelly, i can't take this anymore. i'm going back to the poetry page

My littlest soul
You are weary and red-eyed
you whine, appealing to me
for what you know is the sure thing
to help.

Up onto my lap you settle
big smile ear to ear
knowing what is to come.

You gaze into my eyes,
still knowing
this is the set position
soon very soon
it will come down.

Warm, soothing, fresh
Nothing beats it!
Cuddles and cradling into my nooked arm
your tired eyes roll once you connect
you take me in,
healthfully
happily
blissfully.

And nod off.

OMG, it makes me wish I could experience that all over again...I love those little smiles they get right before you whip out the breast.

i couldn't really take this in this morning...but now, with the babes in bed, now, i can, i am relaxed, and receptive, and crying. i love this. it sends me back to a month ago. to what i wish i had written, and now realize, i need to write...at two, my youngest-- he has just weaned. and i am sad. but your poem brings it all back and makes me yearn for his baby-hood again

Thanks Jessica. This forum is having a profound effect on my day to day now. I am remembering how I adore writing off the cuff, that I *can* do so easily and from my inner soul....and it is getting me to think more...read more.....and reading all of your stuff, all of you, is truly wonderful.

I also am in a crossroads sort of way, wanting my soon to be 2 yr old to wean but afraid to face it....she isn't anywhere near doing so but the thought excites yet upsets me all in the same way.

my2girlsmama, stop that! I'm too old to be getting baby fever !

Truly, send that one in to Mothering. Really. It's beautiful.

A recipe........

Take 8 to 10 red orbs and plae them in the large pocelin bowl. Turn the lever above so the water will spray over the orbs as you rub them with your hands.

Using a sharp blade wiht a sturdy handle and remove the red part of the orb from the white inner part. Slice the white part around the hard center, making wedges as you go.

Mix wedges with sweet brown sticky substance and sandy sweet white stuff. Add ground bark of a tree grown on the Spice Islands (I think!). Place in square heat-proof container.

Top with a mixture of ............the ground grain of the oat plant(???!!!or maybe not ), more sweet stuff. Put in large hot box'like appliance and bake for 45 ticks of teh minute hand on your clock.

So, does anyone have a clue as to what this is?

Red, You just described my favorite dessert (YUM)...What about the Ice cream?? How can one have apple crisp without that?

I can barely see between my lids, still, but I make our way down. First my bare feet shuffle on rough gentle, then on cold smooth. The naked tiny one, his cotton coverings clutched in my free terminal apendage, smacks his thigh and looks for his furry floormate.
Now, the most important element of early day begins with the removal of yesterday's remains. The red plastic receptacle full of organic waste recieves the first offering of the day. From the sliding horizontal shelf we take a paper basket and add the earthy smelling dark brown ground beans. Six heaping tablespoons full. I do my best to nestle the paper basket inside the plastic one without spilling any. It is essential that the paper not fold in too far from the edge so I squint my gooey orbs and ask the tiny one. He doesn't care, he won't be partaking. I check the plastic vessel on the counter that should contain purified liquid basic to life on Earth, and thankfully find it full. From this vessel I fill the machine to the line marked 12, or just a little higher, since the paper basket will retain some. I close the top, and flip the switch. Finally, the most pressing matter having been taken care of, it's time to cover the naked one with with cotton shell.

Huh! I got that steaming cuppa, right away! I love the 'slapping his thigh for his furry floormate" part!

That cuppa would go goodd with some crisp!
