Thanks to a referral by mamadaan, I've been contacted about writing for a e-zine. This is my first time doing something other than AC.

The publisher says she is "impressed with my work" , and asked how I like to work with clients. I plan on being honest that this is my first time writing for this sort, but would love to know what expectations I should offer.

So for freelancers, how do you work with clients? How do you communicate your needs and your payment expectations?

TIA!

Hi,

With both of my clients, I have arranged a general price per 100 words. When I have finished the piece or a set of pieces, I give the exact price that I want. One client pays me by paypal, the other directly into my bank account.

I normally write in google docs. With the lady you are talking about, I normally copy the text into an e-mail and send it to her that way. With my other client, I 'share' the document with him in google docs. He then changes things or makes comments, then I clean it up again. When he is satisfied, he copies it into his database.

If you need anyother information, just ask.

I freelance with bigger companies, so they usually have the guidelines spelled out already. I do put "due upon receipt" on my invoices but know that one client pays every two weeks and the other pays at 30 days. It's good to know when the acct payable dept processes invoices so you know if something has been lost.
