A proposal for an article just got accepted for a national "glossy" type magazine.. A first for me (yay!). I am wondering if what they are paying me is low or high on the scale. Can anyone give me an idea? its about 200-300 words plus 3 or so original recipes.

Thanks

Tanya

Congrats, from my research - magazines usually pay $1+/word and if it is a big-name magazine, even more than that. Of course I've never had the opportunity to be published in a national mag, congratulations to you!

That's terrific!

I am currently waiting to hear from a "glossy" mag about a couple of pieces and I know they pay 1.50 to $2 per word. Most of the time, if you are accustomed to making a certain rate - say 1.50/word and the mag offers you 1/word, if you speak up and say, "My rate is generally $1.50 they will tend to give it to you.

Yup that sounds about right, especially since you have 3 recipes. Soooo...are you going to share which mag this is so we can all read it and say "I 'know' her from MDC's Writing forum!"?

A national glossy should give at least $1 a word. If the recipes are original, I'd consider much more than that.

Welcome to the Real World she said to me, condescendingly, take a seat. Take your life; plot it out in black and white.
