I'm still working towards good - lol. The best piece of advice I can give is that a writer HAS to be able to take constructive criticism from an editor. I think the best writers seek out critques and look for ways to improve constantly.

I totally agree with TCB.

There is a saying to the effect of "Good writers are made, great writers are born." I know that can be argued, but I think it is certainly true of me. I am constantly seeking to better my writing. I truly value feedback from my editors, publishers, and writing colleagues. A good writer snatches every opportunity to grow and learn.

Having experienced some interactions with other writers, I have to add the biggest turn off to me are the ones that are simply good writers who think they are "great." Those who think there writing is already perfect and just want pats on the back drive me bonkers!
