My child has been going to a Montessori school for 1 1/2 years now. He's a very active, energetic boy. He constantly needs reminders, and needs to be moving a lot. I wouldn't say he's ADHD, I've met some ADHD kids and I wouldn't classify mine with that disorder. Educationally, he's doing great. He's way ahead in his grammer boxes, where he should be in math boxes, and he's interested in all the subjects.

So, my question is, is there a typical disciplinary method to dealing with kids that tend to be disruptive? My child is usually given some warning, if this doesn't work, he has to be sent to the office for awhile, if he returns and he's still not working out, then I get a call to come get him.

Any suggestions?

Before we decided to homeschool we considered Montessori for our *very* active dd because of the child-led, respectful stuff. Here's a book I ran across that might be helpful to you:

Children Who Are Not Yet Peaceful: Preventing Exclusion in the Early Elementary Classrooms

My nephew was in Montessori until 4th grade. Same kind of temperment. The school worked out that he could go out in the hall and move around a lot until he could settle back into work. Another Montessori school I know allows the children to work inside or outside as they choose, using "playground necklaces" to limit the number of children outside to a small number at a time. (They can be seen through a wall of windows so the teacher can keep an eye on them as well as if they were in the room.)

Hope that helps.
