My 27 mo old DS is in a wonderful in-home daycare. I've never been this happy with a daycare in 6 yrs of daycares (with 2 boys), and as many daycare centers/homes. A year ago, when we signed him up with her, I also found an awesome M school just a few blocks from my house. I decided to wait until DS was 3 (next Sept), to join, so that he would be in the 3-6 class, but now I'm having 2nd thoughts.
They are having their open house next week for the 2008-09 school year. The cost is more than twice what I'm paying now (we can afford it though). But what if I don't like them? What if he doesn't like them (although, I think he'd be happy anywhere). Will he really be any worse off if I wait another year? I really think DS would thrive in an M school, but then he is thriving already really. He is super smart, and loves to learn new things, loves to help mom out (although, he often refuses to do what he's told, but he is 2 after all). His current caregiver seems to really love him, and I highly doubt I'll get that same thing at the M school.
I guess I'm looking for reasons to change (or if I should). You know what they say "don't fix it, if it ain't broke". I will definitely put him in a preschool - at least P/T at some point before starting public - and yes, we will most likely send him to public school, since the local school is really quite good (not to mention, the cost of M is atrocious) - but you never know, maybe we'd like the M school and stay. My biggest concern with public school is that he won't be challenged enough, and will get bored, so I would certainly consider private (DH is against it for sure though). My oldest is in the bottom half of his class academically (he's our sports start though), and my youngest got all the brains.
