I just purchased a wood toy for DD that is finished in Linseed Oil. The smell is very strong and I was wondering if it usually goes away with time? Also, are these vapors toxic in any way? I'm considering sending the item back, because I'm not so jazzed about the scent.

The smell should fade. I have bamboo counter tops in my kitchen and use linseed oil on them and the smell lingers for a day or two.

Everything I have read says it's not toxic.

It will go away! Fresh air helps. Totally non-toxic but I also don't like the rancid oil smell. Our playstands were oiled with that when they arrived. So the whole room smelled of it at first, but it's gone now.

Ditto that. My FIL made some blocks for the kids last Christmas and finished them with linseed oil (after we specifically asked him to leave them unfinished). The smell was super strong. By now I don't really smell it unless I specifically pick up a block and smelled it.
