We have a 9 month old and are seriously considering Waldorf education for the long haul. Everything about the philosophy speaks to me, though I am perhaps living in that idealist place where new mamas dwell till reality hits. We have a chance in our city to do an infant program at the long established Washington Waldorf School, and also at other nursery only schools, and there is even a program Waldorf inspired that meets at a park. My thought is that we may get the most out of going to the program at the established school, in terms of looking down the road to see if we think it would be a good fit for us. Thoughts??

its been my personal experience that the parent/child class is pretty separated from the rest of the school so you dont really get that much of an idea of the school from it per se. I think going to school functions, lectures, celebrations, plays etc. gives you mroe of an idea

We did do the parent/child class at the school we want to continue at and i feel really good about how at home dd feels there now that she is going to be starting preschool there 2 days a week. She knows where the preschool class is, has been playing in that playground for a long time it just feels like a good consistency

Parent-Tot class is fun, is a great source of support for parents who want to integrate Waldorf principles into their family life, and is a great place to meet like-minded parents IRL. It is also very helpful when it comes to securing a spot in preschool or kindergarten, IME. Most schools around here give preference to children who have been in Parent-Tot class. With many Waldorf schools becoming more and more competitive when it comes to admissions and having waitlists even in this economy, it is a good way to cover your bases to make sure your child has a spot when the time comes. I wouldn't do it just for this reason, but it is a very nice bonus!
