Can someone help me out here with this handwashing verse? I just can't remember the words, perhaps someone else knows it?

There's something about the soap and then it goes something like …..squish squish squish, sliding over the back, diving like a dolphin (or seal, etc., as they put their hands in under the water).

Anyone? An alternative would be welcome (and one for brushing teeth would be a lifesaver too).

thanks

Hmmm, probably not what you were looking for, but in Girl Scouts I remember:

Oh I wish I was a little bar of soap!

Yes I wish I was a little bar of soap!

I'd go shiny shiny shiny over everybody's heiny!

Oh I wish I was a little bar of soap!

(sung to the tune of "If you're happy and you know it")

For tooth brushing, I know this one:

When you wake up in the morning about a quarter to (number) and you feel like (rhyming phrase), you brush your teeth!

Chee chee chee chee, chee chee chee chee!

You brush your teeth- Chee chee chee chee, chee chee chee chee!

When you say the chee chee part you pretend to brush the teeth motion-wise.

one/having a little fun

two/nothing else better to do

three/taking a little spree

four/doing it a little more

etc etc.

There was a melody that I specifically learned to this one, but hard to convey via board! But you could easily make up your own rhymes and melody! Just make it fun!

thanks for the suggestions ... I'll have to keep digging... it was a really great one because the hand gestures were so appropriate. I'll post it if I come across it.

There is a book I haven't got my hands on - I can't recall the name now, but it has verses just like this. Someone will remember.

This isn't the one you're looking for, but we use one in our parent/child class that you might like:

Wash your hands now,

the team has gone to plow.

If you're going to wash your hands,

wash your hands now.

It's sung at a slower pace and is very soothing and melodic. It is a shame how hard it is to convey tune on msg boards!

Good luck in your search. :)

I would love the hand-washing one, too, if someone can find it.

I think someone here posted the tooth-brushing one we use:

All the little milk teeth,
Standing in a row.
Brush, brush, brush,
And away we go!

First do the front ones,
Then do the back,
Scrub, scrub, scrub,
Just like that!

My kids love it....now I just need to come up with something that encompasses the big-boy teeth as well as the milk teeth....aaaah, how time flies!

Wishy washy splishy splashy

now our hands take a little bath.

Whirly, twirly, round they go

till we get them clean like so.

Pit a pat, pit a pat

dry them on a towel like that.

I *think* this came from Simplicity Parenting, the girls love looking out for the bubbles foaming and it actually makes them interested in washing thier hands!
I've always said to make sure the bubbles "grow", because it helps the children wash long enough. This is a good verse to go with that idea.
