Holiday gift ideas...

I'm just starting to think about gifts for the girls (6 and 2-1/2). We usually combine grandparents money to buy them a bigger gift and dh and I make them something. For dd#1, I'm thinking about getting this playhouse with furniture. I didn't have a playhouse when I was a little girl and I have no idea if dd#1 will like it or not. I don't want to spend the money and have her ignore it. DD#1 is fairly active. She plays house with her sister but doesn't really play with little dolls too much. We built a fairy house last year and she has ignored it most of the year. Is that an indicator that she might not like a playhouse? Any advice? Or other ideas for a 6 year old (still very dreamy and very much believes in gnomes, fairies and the like).
We're (DH is) building her a trapeze for the playroom. I think she'll love that.

For dd#2, I'm thinking about making her a doll or knitting her a little stuffed animal. She just started really playing with her sister's dolls.

So what are you thinking in terms of gifts for the kids?

I have a little girl turning five in December, so I've been buying lots of gifts.....
I decided to do an art birthday for her, and I bought her this table and chair set
http://www.rosiehippo.com/productdet...oupnumber=D491
with all kinds of art supplies.
I also got her a lot of the Sarah's silk stuff -like a doll that comes in a purse, and the dress up clothes.
For Christmas I got her this doll
http://www.threesisterstoys.com/stor...-%20Blond/Blue
and I'm going to get her the doll bed from this company as well.
They have a really cool puppet house that I can't get this year, but maybe next.....

I bought this for her as well, and it is BY FAR the thing she plays with most....

I just hung a clothes line for her and I got the CD This is the way we wash a day to listen to while she works.
They are out of it at that site, but Nova Naturals? has the washboard too I think.

I'm so excited for her to open her gift and have all that done so I can redecorate the play area with all our new stuff.....er.......her stuff I mean.

Wow, lovely gifts and great toy sites. Too bad I can't use them here in the UK. Our big one for Wladorf toys is:
http://www.myriadonline.co.uk/dummy-toymenu.html
But they are soooo expensive. You look at the prices on the same stuff in the uS and it costs much less. So, out of principle I try not to buy much from there. Next trip to the US to see relatives, I'm doing birthday shopping.

Anyways, I have finished my daughters Christmas shopping-woohoo!
She's not getting a whole lot from us since the relatives tend to go overboard every year.

She's getting...
-A small aquarium and she can pick out some fish at the shop.
-The cutest shoes in the world:
http://www.tukshoes.co.uk/cgi-bin/cp...tr=HOME:babymj
-A wooden game where a rabbit is eating all the carrots in the garden and you must protect them.
-Two books:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Boy-Who-Grew...e=UTF8&s=books

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Were-Sailing...e=UTF8&s=books

-Putamayo Folk Playground CD

-6 small playsilks

and a stocking with...
-A wooden recorder
-A pair of reindeer antlers (to wear)
-3D dog stickers
-Snowflake window decorations
-A cotton shopping bag with wooden orange, lettuce, juice, lollipop and play money in it. (Erzi brand, to go with her wooden cash register)
-Animal print bandaids
-A wooden bead set, to make a necklace
-A game-stacking sticks on a donkeys back
-A set of wooden animals
-Tinti bath colours

So, a mix of Waldorfy and not.

We were running into the same problem today while ordering stuff for Christmas. (from magic cabin) Over half of the stuff that we wanted was out of stock. I would imagine it is because so many of the items are imported and hand made and the supply chain is slower.

for our 6 yo son:
-some games (wooden stacking cactus and animal pileup)
-a Japanese girlfriend for his boy doll (he specifically requested this one...don't know where he got that from, though!!?), which I am making
-ice skates (I know sports aren't waldorf approved but we all go out ice skating as a family activity and the rental ice skates are too disgusting for words)
-air hockey game (dh is insisting on this one :p what am I to do?)

for our three yo daughter-

-making a girl doll
-doll basket
-doll stroller

for our 1.5 yo son-

-making a baby doll for him
-also a doll basket
-grandma is buying a pentatonic glockenspeil for him

For my grandchildren

Knitting a vest for my grandson. I need to applique a piece of construction equipment or maybe a fire engine onto the front, so he'll wear it, however.

I'm giving my granddaughter a leather horse that I bought several years ago when she was much younger. Turned out it wasn't a toy...just a decorative handmade horse...and now she is old enough to enjoy pretty objects so it will be re-given. I'm sure she doesn't remember it from the first round

Her birthday is at the beginning of December and I always give presents to both kids at both of their birthdays. She is getting some new Stockmar paints picked up at the waldorf school fair and he is getting some crossing guards for his wooden railroad set (ordered online).

And this is the precise reason that we like to shop with these companies. This is America, and we have a lot of social responsibility on a global scale. I have been doing quite a bit of shopping at www.hyenacart.com and there's some good stuff stocked at www.kandfshops.com, too. All of this stuff is made by mamas in their homes, and it is superb craftswomanship and quality.
Check out:

www.hyenacart.com/TheAppleTree
www.hyenacart.com/HillcountryDollmaker
www.hyenacart.com/feast
www.hyenacart.com/motherhues

for starters, anyway! There is LOTS of good stuff to be found, and a lot of it can be custom made in time for the Holidays!
We have a baby doll coming for dd from Hillcountry Dollmaker, some little knight bendy figures from Motherhues (to go with his Ostheimer castle set), some beautiful ornaments from Wheezee's Whimzees at Universal Mama, and two sweet dollhouse dolls from Waldorf Wool Works at Universal Mama.
Every mama I've dealt with has been very professional and lovely. Everything arrives quickly and beautifully packaged. Go check it out!

It's actually Waldorf Wool Works that stocks at Universal Mama - a totally different WAHM than Where's Waldorf. Both have cute things though.

Wow, you are a more organized woman than I, I admire that.

I am going to try and spread it out through the year and on trips to the US will definitely start stocking up on gifts.
