Hi all! I am looking for schooling alternatives for my uncle and his housemates' 5 yo son. He is currently in K in a special ed program(don't get me started on that!) : I just spoke with him and he has over 12 pages of homework for the week Seems like a bit much for a 5 yo little guy IMO. My uncle is really irritated by the curriculum, and how much they push the kids. My dd will be starting a freeschool here in Tucson in the fall, and I was wondering if there are any near them in San Fernando Valley. They live in Northridge I am pretty sure. Are there any freeschools or similar out there? TIA!!!

Are they only preschools? Or are they elementary as well? And thanks for the response!

oh I am sorry I thought you wrote your nephew will be entering Kinder.
No, unfortunately they are only preschools.
that sounds like awful place. As Kindergarten is not mandatory there are quite a few preschools that offer kinder as well. I do knor know the northridge are sorry. BUT check out the LA parent magazine, it's free and usually at park rec centers.

Only freeschool sort of school i know of (but i'm not a socal native) is Play Mountain Place, and there's a charter patterned after it.

http://www.playmountain.org/

http://www.pacificaschool.org/

Both in LA ... not sure what area precisely.
