It seems ideal from what I've read on the website. It doesn't appear to call itself any type of school - freedom, democratic. Has anyone had experience with this kind of school? I would just like some positive and negative ideas about what this school might be like.
I don't think it's affiliated as in Montessori/Waldorf, etc. but I think the term progressive education might be a good one for you to explore based on my quick read of th site. Here is one description:
It looks like a great school--well established, teachers with LOTS of experience (many of them 18,19 years on staff), well developed philosophy. My belief is that UW Madison is a great incubator for teachers of this type.
No I'm not, though I have visited and it's lovely! A dear friend of mine got her master's in education there and speaks very highly of their education dept. She went on to get a Ph.D. at UMass, also in education, so we speak of educational theory/philosophy quite often.
